The Director of Nursing (DON) serves as a member of the leadership team. Provides leadership and coordination of nursing functions. Coordinates and supervises operations of the department and administers physical agents prescribed by a referring physician. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Assures competency of all nursing department personnel. Facilitates the design and implements the delivery of excellent patient care; recommends strategies to improve services. Establishes goals and provides leadership, direction, and administration to meet them. Works closely with the nursing staff to maintain the high quality of nursing care and to promote nursing staff participation in furthering the mission of the organization. Maintains efficient and effective department operation while requiring compliance with all state, federal and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols. Provides professional nursing care as appropriate.

• Responsible for direction of the Nursing Department staff. Supports and empowers staff to embrace the mission and value statements of the organization.
• Performs management activities including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, termination and departmental staffing and scheduling.
• Educates and mentors nursing staff in effective and appropriate approaches to patients with addictive and psychiatric symptoms. Mentors the nursing staff to effectively participate in the overall treatment team.
• Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.​​​​​​
