Hubbard Hill Estates is Hiring a Qualified Medication Aide - 1st Shift Near Elkhart, IN

*Compensation is based on tenure. Shift differentials are offered for evenings, nights, and weekends depending on what package an individual is on.

1st Shift - 6:30am - 2:30pm

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Administers medication to residents safely, documenting any immediate reactions.
  • Taking vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiratory).
  • Provide direct resident care such as assisting with bathing, eating, dressing, toileting, walking residents and taking care of incontinence needs, change bed linens, record amount of oral intake and measure urinary output, collect specimens for tests, supply and empty bed pans, interact with residents and family, transport residents and equipment as needed, record care given, report any variances to the nurse for further assessment.
  • Turn and reposition residents who cannot change their own position to prevent breakdown of their skin.
  • Assist with evacuation of residents in emergency situations.
  • Participates in departmental all-staff and on the job in service programs as scheduled.
  • Prepares rooms for residents upon admission, following admission guidelines.
  • Reports all complaints and grievances made by the resident to the Charge Nurse.
  • Perform testing and special treatments as instructed.
  • Reports supply needs to the proper individual.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Accountabilities:

  • Follows established safety procedures and precautions while performing tasks and during emergencies.
  • Reports all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, etc. to the appropriate area.
  • Follow infectious disease precautions to prevent the spread of organisms.
  • Assures that work areas are clean, and equipment properly stored before leaving on breaks or at end of the workday.
  • Assures that Infection Control and Universal Precaution practices are followed while performing duties. Uses appropriate clothing/devices when performing tasks involving the handling of infectious waste and/or blood/body fluids.
  • Maintains confidentiality of resident information and honors resident personal and property rights.
  • Handles all interactions with residents and staff in a respectful and cordial manner.
  • Complies with all Hubbard Hill Estates work rules, policies and procedures.
  • Disposes of refuse in accordance with Hubbard Hill sanitation procedures.
  • Demonstrates dependability, punctuality, and professional appearance.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, related software and other accounting software programs.
  • Ability to operate related office equipment, such as computers, 10-key calculator, and copier.
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to anticipate work needs and interact professionally with customers.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

  • Valid Indiana certification for medical aide and nursing assistant required.
  • Must be able to read, speak and understand English and follow oral and written instructions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have sufficient strength to turn, lift, and assist patients with movement and be able to lift, push, pull and move 50 pounds.
  • Works throughout the nursing services area.
  • Must be able to walk and move about throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to see and hear, with or without the use of prosthetics, to adequately meet the requirements of this position.
  • Must be available to be on-call and to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends or holidays when necessary.
  • Must be able to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset or hostile people.
  • May encounter frequent interruptions and exposure to infectious waste.
  • Must communicate with medical staff, nursing personnel and other internal and external contacts.
