HRSD is Hiring a Lab Quality Assurance Manager Near Virginia, VA

Work Schedule and Other Information

Must be available to work occasional holidays, weekends, and overtime when necessary.

Brief Description

Under broad guidance, the Lab Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for:
a. Managing all aspects of the CEL Quality Assurance (QA) Program to ensure validity and legal defensibility of analytical results
b. Ensuring the Quality Assurance program meets Virginia Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (VELAP) requirements, and serving as primary contact
c. Advocating on behalf of HRSD and its customers based on HRSD’s Strategic and Business Plans
d. Ensuring QA program and Quality Control (QC) protocols meet project/program data quality objectives
e. Communicating and supporting the HRSD Strategic and Business Plans
f. Providing leadership, technical expertise and support to Sample Management and Sample Receiving sections staff
g. Working with all laboratory managers and other staff to ensure implementation and adherence to the QA Program

Job Requirements

a. Education

1. Required

BS degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, Physics or a related physical science. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in other disciplines with at least 30 credit hours of college coursework in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, Physics or a related physical science as approved.

2. Desired

Two years of experience in environmental laboratory analysis, either in a utility or commercial laboratory.

b. Experience

1. Required

a) Five years of progressively responsible experience with a quality assurance program in a NELAC/VELAP accredited environmental laboratory

b) Experience working in a team environment using quality principles, continuous improvement and participative management

2. Desired

Two years of experience in environmental laboratory analysis, either in a utility or commercial laboratory

c. Job-specific Technical Competencies

Required

a) Strong managerial skills to plan, organize, implement, and control a quality assurance program in compliance with complex regulatory programs

b) Knowledge of and a commitment to quality improvement are necessary to be successful in this position

c) Thorough knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations that pertain to analytical environmental monitoring and quality assurance is required, including accreditation regulations

d) Knowledge of municipal wastewater treatment plant operations

e) Thorough scientific and technical knowledge of quality assurance and quality control applications, complex analytical techniques and instrumentation

f) Knowledge of related computer database development/maintenance, statistics, and major computer applications

g) Working knowledge of new technologies, equipment, and processes pertaining to QA applications

h) Ability to manage/coordinate multiple projects and programs

i) Ability to prepare clear and concise reports of a highly technical nature

j) Ability to use MS Office products and SM LIMS at an advanced level of proficiency and a variety of other industry-specific programs (e.g., EDMS) at an intermediate to advanced level of proficiency

d. Special Licenses
