HRBoost is Hiring an Executive Director Near Highland Park, IL

Family Service of Lake County (FSLC) was founded in 1930 in response to Highland Park residents devastated by the Great Depression. Today our social service agency is a regional leader in responding to the emotional, behavioral, educational and health-and-wellness needs of residents across Lake County. Our mission is to strengthen families through counseling, education and related support services, and help individuals succeed in school, at work, in relationships and within our community. FSLC role in the community was heightened after the events on July 4th, 2022.

FSLC's services include:

  • Counseling - individual, family and couples counseling for all ages, youth through seniors
  • Senior and Caregiver Services - an array of support services for seniors and caregivers, including support groups, senior advocate, and caregiver resource center
  • Latino and Youth Services - educational support services for first-generation Latino youth and their families

FSLC is headquartered in Highland Park, Illinois, and serves various communities across Lake County. We have 20 employees and serve over 5,000 community members each year with an annual budget of $1.5 million. For more information, please visit www.famservice.org.

FSLC seeks a strategic and energetic leader to oversee operations and to chart the course for the organization's future while maintaining the highest level of quality care. The Executive Director will collaborate and communicate effectively with an engaged Board of Directors and leadership staff to build on the organization's success, identify new opportunities for increased revenue and advance a vision of increased impact. The ideal candidate will be a proven and respected leader with demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, staff development, program development, program operations, fundraising and financial management.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will ensure Family Service of Lake County is fiscally, operationally, and administratively sound. The Executive Director will be responsible for the delivery of programming and articulating programmatic impact. The Executive Director will be accountable for achieving fundraising and financial goals that are well conceived, attainable, and balanced. The Executive Director will meet regularly with the Board Chair and be responsible for providing the Board, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions, including information regarding key staffing decisions and program matters.

Community Relations

The Executive Director will elevate the public standing of the organization as its external presence and spokesperson including building relationships with key constituents to ensure successful mission delivery and remaining aware of the community's changing needs. The Executive Director will educate and update the community about the agency's services and funding needs, while partnering with staff in presentations to enhance public visibility about the high-quality work produced by the agency's professional staff. In addition, the Executive Director will build relationships with major funders in collaboration with Development Director.

Candidate Profile

  • A passion for fulfilling FSLC's mission
  • Senior management experience demonstrating progressive responsibility in a not-for­ profit environment
  • Proven success in inspiring and building strong and productive teams with a focus on nurturing staff development and a collaborative work environment
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating programming to meet the needs of diverse communities
  • Ability to develop and drive strategies to grow and leverage financial resources meeting the need to achieve fundraising and earned income objectives
  • Experience in successful community outreach, enhancing public visibility of organizations and cultivating donor relationships
  • Strong financial management and budgeting skills including the ability to collaboratively establish revenue and expense budgets
  • Ability to successfully execute the strategic plan, setting clear milestones and performance expectations while making adjustments in response to internal and external changes
  • Be an effective spokesperson and advocate who clearly articulates the mission, goals and programmatic objectives in a way to which the community and donors can understand, relate and respond
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in a relevant field including mental health services, social work, education or healthcare is preferred. Five years’ experience in a social service agency would also be a plus
