Responsibilities

Ö Loads residential and some business solid waste/recycling materials from street into truck on regular basis.

Ö Starts hoisting device attached to rear of truck that raises dumpsters and dumps contents into rubbish truck.

Ö Works alone or as a member of crew on caring for City streets using hand and power tools and equipment.

Ö Performs various manual labor tasks at times in accordance with Labor job description.

Ö Works with snow removal operations including shoveling, acting as a wing-person on a snowplow unit, and using associated machinery such as power brooms or snow blowers.

Ö Performs related work as assigned.

Hours

Monday thru Friday, however candidates must have the ability to work non-standard hours for snow removal operations, city functions or in an emergency.

Requirements

Ö Knowledge of hand and power tools, equipment, materials, methods and practices as related to work and of the hazards and safety precautions necessary in general labor, repetitious lifting/throwing and maintenance work.

Ö Skill in operations of mechanical/hydraulic systems of the rubbish truck compacting unit.

Ö Skill in performing routine maintenance as instructed.

Ö Ability to quickly make coordinated movements to effectively pick up the curbside rubbish and recyclables.

Ö Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects and to do so repeatedly and/or continuously over time.

Ö Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Ö Ability to interact effectively and courteously with coworkers and the public.

Ö Ability to identify common occupational hazards and utilize safe work practices.
