Hoyleton Youth and Family Services is Hiring a Grant Accountant Near Fairview, IL

The Grant Accountant will be primarily responsible for all aspects of fiscal management related to Federal, State, or private funded grants, with a larger hands-on role in a State-funded Cash Assistance program. The Grant Accountant is to be familiar with all Federal and State guidelines such as the Federal CFR 200 and the Grant Accountability and Transparency Act (GATA), as adopted by the State of Illinois. As a member of the Hoyleton Financial Operations Team, there is also the underlying responsibility of ensuring appropriate accounting control procedures and generally accepted accounting principles are strictly adhered.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Oversee and report on all grant activities, including compliance with monthly, quarterly, and annual requirements.
  2. Lead monthly fiscal status discussions for each grant.
  3. Ensure timely revenue recognition and accurate system postings for grant activities.
  4. Manage grant budgeting processes, including operations, renewals, and new opportunities.
  5. Apply, reconcile payments received, and maintain supporting documentation.
  6. Assist in the annual budgeting process for grant funding.
  7. Lead support for fiscal monitoring, audits by Federal and State entities, and the annual fiscal audit, ensuring compliance with accounting policies and internal controls.
  8. Collaborate with grant writers and program staff on financial aspects of programs and services, and conduct ad hoc reporting and analysis.
  9. Assist in maintaining an appropriate Indirect Cost Rate.
  10. Process and oversee flex funding requests with proper documentation and maintain detailed spending records.
  11. Exercise judgment on questionable requests and consult supervising staff and DCFS monitor as necessary.
  12. Ad hoc reporting and analysis as needed or upon request.

SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Deliver timely responses to urgent tasks and reports, demonstrating analytical acumen, precision, and detail-oriented analysis.
  • Communicate effectively with all agency levels, fostering teamwork while ensuring productivity, accountability, and dependability.
  • Uphold a customer-focused, professional, and ethical demeanor, open to change and continuous improvement.
  • Engage in annual training related to governance and execution of Federal and Illinois-funded programs and exhibit leadership qualities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Must possess a Bachelor's Degree from an Accredited Institution in Accounting (preferred), Finance, or Business Management.
  • 3-5 years of experience with a computerized accounting software system, preferably Microsoft Dynamics, Great Plains, with emphasis using Smartlist and Management Reporter, and experience with automated payroll software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Minimum of three years' experience as a relevant Accounting position working as a full-cycle accountant.
  • Minimum of two years of directly working with fiscal grant reporting, preferably in a non-profit environment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver's license

CARE & TCI

One of the essential job functions of any position within the agency is to align your performance with our overarching philosophy of CARE. All decisions, actions, communication, and performance should align with the six CARE principles (Developmentally Focused, Family Involved, Relationship Based, Ecologically Oriented, Competence Centered, and Trauma Informed). Not only must you complete the CARE training with satisfactory participation, but you must then put that training into practice in your everyday work.

Every employee must also pass TCI training with a satisfactory grade in written and/or physical testing. All employees must remain current on refresher training that is provided monthly at all locations. You will be tested every 6 months on the physical portion, if applicable to your position. You will be tested annually on the written portion regardless of your position. If you are not current on your TCI refresher training every six months, you will be required to retake the full course. If you do not pass either test, you may be required to retake the full course. Not only must you complete the TCI training with satisfactory participation, but you must then put that training into practice in your everyday work.
