Houston Museum of Natural Science is Hiring an Inventory Manager, Museum Store (FT) Near Houston, TX

Position: Inventory Manager, Museum Store
Employment Status: Full Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
To match the extensive variety of the exhibitions, the Houston Museum of Natural Science offers items to delight all ages and tastes. In addition to the flagship store at the entrance of the museum, Museum Store staff also operate temporary stores in conjunction with special exhibitions. The physical stores and online store generate vital revenue for the museum which is a nonprofit educational organization.
The museum is looking for a dedicated and reliable Inventory Manager to join the HMNS retail team. The position’s chief goal is monitoring and receiving inventory that arrives daily. Using inventory tracking systems, the Inventory Manager performs daily analysis, reviews supply levels, prices inventory and brings it to the sales floor.
The Inventory Manager works closely with inventory staff, Museum Store Director and the rest of the retail team. The regular schedule for this position is four weekdays and one weekend day per week.
A successful Inventory Manager is a trustworthy professional with outstanding record-keeping and analytical abilities. This position requires excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to interpret and analyze large amounts of data.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Use the inventory tracking system to receive inventory
  • Examine the levels of products to determine shortages
  • Document daily deliveries and shipments to update inventory
  • Prepare end-of-day reports on inventory operations, stock levels and adjustments
  • Evaluate new inventory to ensure it is ready to be on the sales floor
  • Restock all the museum’s stores daily with merchandise
  • Work closely with the Museum Store Director on the annual inventory audit
  • Operate various equipment to receive and move large pallets of inventory
  • Maintain stockrooms to ensure easy access to all products
  • Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • An analytical mind with strong attention to detail
  • Outstanding organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
  • Able to arrive to work on time
  • Have a reliable source of transportation 
  • Proven track record of reliable punctuality and attendance
Requirements:
  • Able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Able to operate a desktop computer, mobile computer, scanner, scale and other equipment
  • Able to lift up to 45 pounds
  • Able to operate pallet-moving equipment
  • Able to push and pull, and carry loads up to 80 pounds with rolling cart
  • Able to work either Saturdays or Sundays (The regular schedule for this position is four weekdays and one weekend day per week.)
