Position: E-Commerce Assistant, Museum Store
Employment Status: Full Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
To match the extensive variety of the exhibitions, the Houston Museum of Natural Science offers items to delight all ages and tastes. In addition to the flagship store at the entrance of the museum, Museum Store staff also operate temporary stores in conjunction with special exhibitions. The physical stores and online store generate vital revenue for the museum which is a nonprofit educational organization.
The Houston Museum of Natural Science’s Museum Store is looking for a friendly and enthusiastic individual to join our team!
The E-Commerce Assistant is responsible for online order fulfillment and other e-commerce site operations. This position also plays a key role in customer service, store operations and office management. Accuracy in order fulfillment and documentation is critical to this position. The individual in this position will have the opportunity to gain experience in various e-commerce, inventory management and sales processes.
The E-Commerce Assistant works closely with other Museum Store staff, including the Director of Purchasing, Inventory Manager and Museum Store Director.
Essential duties and positions include:
Fulfill, label and package orders for shipping or customer pickup
Ensure online orders are fulfilled in a timely, precise manner
Complete order and shipping documentation accurately
Contact customers as needed for pickup orders
Resolve shipping and return issues
Provide dimensions and weights of all items for the e-commerce site
Maintain a safe, clean and organized work environment
Assist in store operations as needed, including inventory and promotional events
Collaborate with other museum departments
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
High level of attention to detail and accuracy, with dedication to quality
Manage own time effectively
Comfortable in an environment that changes from a slow to fast-pace workflow
Flexible to adjust tasks as day-to-day priorities change
Alert and able to respond quickly in time-sensitive situations
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with customers and colleagues
Excellent customer service skills
Prior experience with retail software a plus
Relevant volunteer or work experience is preferred
Requirements:
Moderate physical activity required
Able to lift up to 45 pounds
Able to ascend and descend one flight of stairs
Able to operate a desktop computer, mobile computer, scanner, scale and other equipment
Arrive to work on time
Must comply with the museum’s COVID-19 protocols
