POSITION SUMMARY:

The Loss Prevention Associate, under the leadership of the Loss Prevention Manager or senior leadership, will support the Houston Food Bank’s loss prevention efforts to safeguard assets, prevent and minimize theft, and reduce shortages and fraud. This position will be responsible for conducting audits and investigations of employee activity and maintaining reports of observations and incidents.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Reliable, consistent, on-site attendance is a requirement. This position requires punctuality and dependable attendance to meet the needs of the business, including attending and taking part in meetings and presentations.
  2. Identifies, recommends, and implements systems to minimize loss of merchandise, money, or HFB’s assets.
  3. Patrols all areas of the property; assists visitors with basic information and directions.
  4. Defuses visitor and employee disturbances.
  5. Escorts any unwelcome persons from the property without interrupting the orderly flow of operations.
  6. Maintains written compliance and pass-down logs in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), including shift summary/daily activity reports.
  7. Provides guidance to contractors, assigned volunteers, community service workers, and vendors to ensure understanding of the loss prevention expectations and temporary assigned duties.
  8. Assists with audits and investigates sources of known and potential losses.
  9. Monitors public areas for unusual activity and potential threats.
  10. Documents theft and other violations of security, and observations while on duty; prepares and reviews written documents accurately and completely.
  11. Works with law enforcement or other officials as necessary
  12. Monitors inventory via cameras and conducts visual inspections in order to identify theft or shortage risks.
  13. Conducts periodic testing of alarm and video surveillance systems.
  14. Maintains confidentiality of all Security/Loss Prevention and property reports/documents; releases information only to authorized individuals.
  15. Assists with periodic inspections of facilities to ensure surveillance and security equipment is functioning properly.
  16. Researches, suggests, and implements additional security measures.
  17. Partners with Human Resources as required for employee separations, suspensions, locker searches, and other investigations.
  18. Supports on-site Emergency Response efforts during disasters.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma from an accredited school or general education development (GED) certificate
  • 3 years’ experience preferably in the manufacturing and/or warehousing industry
  • 3 years minimum experience in loss prevention, or security, is preferred

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Certifications in CPR-PR, AED, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens (or ability to become certified within 90-days of employment)
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and insurance.

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to prepare reports and documentation.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and general public
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Must be able to read and write detailed reports in English
  • Speak with others using clear and professional language.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and can act quickly with little or no supervision
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills
  • Awareness of safety/risk management procedures
  • Ability to operate security cameras, download security footage and preserve evidence.
  • Experience operating with strict confidentiality and handling sensitive information.
  • Ability to safely drive a golf cart, and place and remove safety cones.

Carries out responsibilities in accordance with HFB policies, and applicable federal and state laws.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required on a daily basis to communicate, and remain in a standing or seated position for a significant amount of the workday. Employees are regularly required to move about the office and around the facility, use hands, wrists and fingers to grip, type, and write. The employee will need to have the average ability to hear horns, warnings, and alerts associated with a warehouse. The employee is occasionally required to travel to other sites for business. The employee may occasionally be required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to secure and open all property gates and doors in accordance with hours of operations. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The job is generally performed while moving in a combination of indoors and outdoors, the employee is often exposed to Houston, TX weather conditions and occasionally exposed to freezers, enclosed and/or tight spaces, wet and/or humid conditions, areas in which moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals are present, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the employee will be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels (e.g., horns, fans).

TRAVEL REQUIRED

Minimal travel is required for this position (up to 10% of the time and on a domestic basis to other HFB facilities). This role supports all hours of operations at the Houston Food Bank facilities as necessary and requires a flexible work schedule.
