Summary and relationship to the curriculum:  This position ensures the implementation of the State and Local adopted curriculum in support of the system’s mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teaches at an appropriate instructional level.
  1. Provides teacher-focused and student-focused content development.
  1. Provides initial focus, content emphasis and linking, and lesson summaries
  1. Assesses and encourages student progress.
  1. Monitors student progress.
  1. Responds to adequate and inadequate student performances.
  1. Supports students.
  1. Handles non-instructional tasks efficiently and uses instructional time appropriately.
  1. Maintains effective physical setting for instruction.
  1. Maintains appropriate student behavior in the classroom.
  1. Follows professional practices consistent with school system, and state policies in working with students, student records, parents, and colleagues.
  1. Interacts in a professional manner with staff, students, and parents.
  1. Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications.
  1. Maintains confidentiality of students and student records.
  1. Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents.
  1. Complies with school, system, and state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies.
  1. Conducts assigned classes at the times scheduled.
  1. Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline.
  1. Provides adequate information, plans, and materials for substitute teacher.
  1. Maintains accurate, complete, and appropriate records and files reports promptly.
  1. Attends and participates in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy.
  1. Complies with conditions as stated in contract.
  1. Demonstrates professional practices in teaching.
  1. Models correct use of language, oral and written.
  1. Demonstrates accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content.
  1. Maintains lesson plans as required by school policy.
  1. Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students.
  1. Acts in a professional manner and assumes responsibility for the total school program, its safety and good order.
  1. Takes precautions to protect records, equipment, materials and facilities.
  1. Assumes responsibility for supervising students in out-of-class settings.
  1. Maintains professional relationships.
  1. Performs any other duties as requested by the Principal, Superintendent of Schools, and Board of Education.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   1. Education and/or Experience: Must have a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Education. Advance degree a plus. 
  2. Certificate or License Required: Valid Georgia professional teaching certificate in the assigned teaching field.
  3. Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students.
  4. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  5. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to apply sound educational principles to various classroom situations.
  6. Technical Ability: Must have considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
  7. Customer Service Skills: Must be capable of interacting effectively with administrators, teachers, staff members, students, parents, and the general public using tactful and helpful customer service.

Professional Requirements: Must serve as a role model to students. Desirable personal characteristics are required. Appropriate dress and grooming consistent with established standards required. Must be at work on time. Must meet attendance standards. Must conduct activities safely.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, and lift. Occasionally, the employee must crouch or kneel. The employee must be able to exert or lift up to 50 pounds.
