Salary: Salary Range $15.48-$23.40 - Grade 16
Duties: Elections Specialist is responsible for the storage, security, and maintenance of voting equipment, precinct keys, and other related election equipment. He/she is responsible for preparing and testing voting equipment for all federal, state, and county elections; when necessary, repairs or replacement of damaged or malfunctioning parts is required. This position requires scheduling and delivering voting equipment to the voting places, explaining and/or demonstrating voting machine operations to polling officials, retrieving voting equipment, and preparing voting equipment for storage after each election. Additional responsibilities include assisting Probate Judge in poll school and demonstrating operation of voting equipment when necessary. He/she is required to monitor precincts and voting equipment on Election Day and during ballot recounts, responsible for surveying existing and new polling place facilities for HAVA compliance and assisting in providing county commission with necessary information regarding changes to polling places and /or upgrades, assist in administering election education as requested and attend election training classes and workshops to maintain a working knowledge of the election process and procedures in Alabama.
Qualification: Qualifications: High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate, possess valid driver's license prior to and during employment of this position.
Other: Elections Specialist assists in the following duties: preparing training materials and manuals; preparing for and conducting poll school, maintaining a running list of potential poll workers; maintaining and updating street files, district assignments, polling place information, providing reports and election information to political parties, candidates, media and public; preparing publications required by law; preparing and conducting poll school; preparing rosters and maintaining district maps for municipalities and their elections.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures and Alabama Election Handbook
  • Ability to physically perform the duties & work in the environmental conditions required of the position
  • Ability to communicate and work well with others, supervise inmate personnel, keep records, and prepare written reports if necessary
