Housing Authority of Jackson County Illinois is Hiring a Resident Janitor Near Murphysboro, IL

The Housing Authority of the County of Jackson, Illinois (?JCHA?) was established in 1946 and the first public housing was constructed in 1960. Since then, JCHA's mission is to provide safe decent, and sanitary housing to low-income families, elderly families, disabled families, and low-income individuals in 6 towns throughout the County. The programs administered by JCHA consist of Public Housing Units, Housing Choice Vouchers, and 12 Multi-Family Housing units.
The Housing Authority has openings for its public housing residents to join the team part-time as Resident Janitors under the Resident Service Stipend initiative. The position has limited hours of 3 to 5 hours per week between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The schedule will be set upon hire. The compensation for the position is up to $200 per month and is dependent on the number of hours worked.
The role of the Janitor is recognized as a key function to proactively manage, to a high standard, properties owned and/or managed by JCHA. Key responsibilities include ensuring that all assigned areas are clean and maintained, and trash is removed in the assigned work areas.
The Resident Janitor will report to the Maintenance and Capital Improvements Coordinator who manages his/her assigned work area.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Clean designated buildings, offices, and areas which includes, but is not limited to, dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restrooms, stairwells, taking out the garbage, etc.
2. Cleaning and wiping down mirrors, windows, doors, and elevators.
3. Disinfect commonly used items and areas.
4. Supervise and escort pest exterminators entering tenant apartments and staff office space.
5. Carry out heavy cleaning tasks and special projects.
6. Notify the Maintenance Department of deficiencies occurring or needs for repairs.
7. Stock and maintain supply room.
8. Dust mopping, waxing, and buffing.
9. Keep common area restrooms stocked with paper goods and soap.
10. Follow all health and safety regulations.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
1. Passion for working with low-income residents and sincere interest and desire to assist residents.
2. Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
3. Knowledge of safety guidelines when working with chemical cleaners.
4. Ability to pay attention to details.

8. Work independently on a variety of tasks.

12. Establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships with all those contacted at work.
