Job DescriptionHouse of Spices is a deeply rooted brand within the food industry, leading the specialty food and ingredient category for over 50 years. Fast-forward from its start as a homegrown family business, House of Spices has become a middle-market wholesale/manufacturer which includes multiple distribution networks across the country. The Imports Manager is responsible for managing the logistics of importing goods, coordinating with supply chain and customs brokers to ensure compliance with regulators, and managing freight contracts for HOS India Inc.

The Imports Manager is responsible for managing the logistics of importing goods, coordinating with supply chain and customs brokers to ensure compliance with regulators, and managing freight contracts for HOS India Inc.
Essential Functions
- Implement management procedures to improve imports workflow and cost reduction.
- Review operating policies periodically to analyze trends and assist Management in forecasting the import budget.
- Keep and maintain C-TPAT record of the company & also maintain up to date company profiles of the overseas vendors
- Negotiate ocean freight rates with the steamship lines and freight forwarders.
- Supervise and maintain up to date records of the landed cost of all imported containers/ SKUs.
- Deal with USDA and FDA on daily basis for release of detained and AQI shipments.
- Deal with Certified Laboratory for testing and release of FDA detained.
- FDA registration of all House of Spices warehouses.
- Help House of Spices business partners (Suppliers) for their facility’s FDA Registration.
- File diversion requests to the shipping lines in order to divert containers at various Ports/ Locations when required.
- Coordinate with purchase team and warehouse location managers to keep them informed about the in-transit shipments.
- Audit 7501 (Custom Entries) to ensure accuracy of custom entries field and duty paid by the Customs House Brokers
- Oversee all relationships pertaining to brokers, freight forwarders, truckers , shipping lines and certified laboratories. This includes all billing for these partners.
- Supervise filing of ISF by the Imports team.
- Supervision and training of the Imports team in the USA as well as in the India office.
Qualifications
- Licenses or certifications required by the position: C-TPAT, HAZMAT
- Must be confident and passionate, highly articulate and engaged communicator/ presenter
- Ability to work in matrix organization and handle competing priorities
- Ability to collaborate and influence others to drive functional priorities
- Must be able to use Excel, Word and other common desktop software applications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics or related field.
- 10 years of relevant import/export experience
- 2-5 years of experience on US regulations and requirements for import, export and domestic shipments of grocery items including US Customs, US Foreign Trade Zone and Department of Transportation Laws
