Substance Abuse Counselor

Status: Full time

Work Schedule: Mon – Fri, some evenings and weekends required

Salary: $60,000/yr.

Job Summary

Hour Children (HC) is an organization founded to help incarcerated and formerly incarcerated

women and their children successfully rejoin the community, reunify with their families, and build

health, independent and secure lives. Hour Children provides compassionate and comprehensive

standards of justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion. This qualified (CASAC) health professional will

provide substance use services to evaluate and treat women with substance use addiction and

mental health who are formerly incarcerated and provide support to families and/or care givers.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a caseload of clients with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders.
• Conduct intake assessment for client admission and assist with diagnosis.
• Provide weekly individual counseling sessions and support groups/workshops. Educate clients on coping mechanisms.
• Coordinate and organize services with other department interdisciplinary units.
• Develop treatment and recovery plans and implement client goals based on client needs and comprehensive evaluations.
• Meet regularly with other professionals including medical, HWWP, mental health counselors, family, etc. to ensure client compliance with services.
• Attend and participate in case review/conference meetings.
• Provide referral and follow up services.
• Maintain documentation of client case record according to state contracts and other guidelines.
• As needed, assist clients with budget management and maintain client savings.
• Keep abreast of developments in the field of chemical dependence/abuse, criminal justice system, welfare reform laws, and women issues via meetings, training, and conferences.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in human services or related field and 3 years’ experience; Associate degree or a minimum of 5 years’ experience providing case management and counseling services to women within criminal legal system presenting with chemical dependence/abuse issues.
• Must possess a CASAC. Candidates who are in the process of completing CASAC can apply.
• Must be available to work a minimum of 2 evening shifts to accommodate client and program needs.
• Familiarity with managing electronic health records.
• In-depth knowledge of drug and alcohol testing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Experience:

• Addiction counseling: 5 years (Preferred)

Work Location: In person
