General Statement of Duties:  Assists the chef and cook as needed in the day-to-day operations of the Hospice of the Panhandle kitchen. Provides services to assist in the maintenance of a safe, clean environment for patient comfort and an attractive and pleasant atmosphere for patients, visitors, and employees.

Level of Responsibility: Reports to Facilities Manager. 

Status: Non-exempt

Schedule: Part Time (20 hours weekly). 2 days per week, 10 hour shifts (7:30am-5:30pm). Must be available to cover some weekends. Schedule is not fixed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Kitchen:

1. *Assists in the preparation of meals for patients and families as needed in the absence of the chef.
2. Follow menu recommendations from the registered dietitian.
3. * Obtains food preferences and related information from patients and families.
4. * Prepares food following recipes and proper food safety procedures.
5. * Plates and serves food following portion control guidelines.
6. * Maintains proper storage and temperature for food.
7. * Responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary working environment.
8. Maintains clean equipment, detailing each piece throughout the kitchen.
9. Follows a weekly cleaning schedule.
10. * Monitors quality and satisfaction of food service delivery.
11. * Monitors food temperatures during deliveries.
12. * Follows State Health Department guidelines for storing foods, including labeling and dating.
13. Monitors temperatures, both hot and cold, keeping items within critical control guidelines.
14. Uses every precaution possible to prevent cross contamination, physical contamination and chemical contamination.
15. * Follows the State Health Department guidelines for personal hygiene in the work setting.

Housekeeping

1. * Provides the finest environmental conditions possible for patient comfort as related to cleanliness, health, and sanitation.
2. *Provides maximum bacteriological control to limit infection by proper aseptic techniques.
3. * Provides trash and refuse removal and/or destruction.
4. *Dust mops and wet mops hard floor surfaces with disinfectant solution according to maintenance procedures.
5. *Vacuums carpet using conventional vacuum cleaner.
6. Repairs and/or reports equipment repairs needed and cleans equipment after use.
7. *Cleans horizontal surfaces in offices, kitchen, public rooms, patient rooms and cleans all bathrooms.

9. Performs schedule of extra cleaning duties as requested.
10. Demonstrates positive customer service and co-worker relations.
11. Complies with OSHA and bloodborne pathogen standards.
12. Complies with the employee standards listed in the general evaluation for hospice employees.
13. *Other duties as assigned.
