In your role as an engineer at Horizon Surgical Systems, you will design components and systems (hardware and software) as part of a complete product subjected to FDA regulations. Your design will be subject to safety and efficacy requirements.

The level of title will be determined case by case, based on the candidate's qualifications and years of experience: senior engineer, staff engineer, or higher.

Required Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Educational Background:
    • Master’s or Ph.D. Degree in robotics-related field
  • Technical Skills:
    • Programming languages: Proficiency in C/C , Python. Familiarity with Matlab
    • Operating Systems: Proficiency in working with real-time Linux
    • Familiarity with ROS2/ROS
    • Deep understanding of image-guided robot control systems and algorithms 
    • Deep understanding of control algorithms and systems of robotic manipulators
    • Strong knowledge in automation with robotic systems
    • Strong knowledge of robot path and trajectory generation algorithms
    • Proficiency in software version control (e.g. Git)
    • Familiarity with computer vision libraries such as OpenCV
  • Experience:
    • Ideally 3 years of software development experience for robotics product, with 2 years in a regulated product development or medical device manufacturing environment
    • Hands on experience with integration of hardware and software for robotic systems with imaging modules (e.g. camera)
    • Hands on experience with working on control and/or path planning algorithms for robotic manipulators or systems
  • Soft Skills:
    • Self-starter
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. 
    • Good communication (verbal and written) and documentation skills
  • Responsibilities:
    • Design, develop, and test software and control algorithms for robotic systems
    • Characterize and improve the performance of robotic systems
    • Collaborate with multiple technical teams to support the development of features
    • Perform risk assessments, and design and implement safety algorithms
    • Document requirements, risks, test protocols to support the regulatory approval process such as the FDA
