Hopewell City School District is Hiring a Gifted Teacher- Elementary Near Hopewell, VA

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education or a related field. The candidate must hold, or be eligible to hold, a Virginia teaching license in Elementary Education required, with additional certification or endorsement in Gifted Education preferred. Demonstrated experience working with gifted students or implementing gifted education programs is essential. Strong knowledge of curriculum development, differentiation strategies, and instructional techniques for gifted learners is necessary. Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills are required to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.

DESCRIPTION:

The Elementary Gifted Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to gifted students in accordance with state standards and district policies. This role involves identifying and serving the unique educational needs of gifted learners, promoting critical thinking and creativity, and fostering a challenging and supportive learning environment.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Develop and implement differentiated curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of gifted students.
  • Conduct assessments to identify gifted students and determine appropriate programming and interventions.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and parents to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or plans for identified gifted students.
  • Provide direct instruction to gifted students through small group or pull-out sessions, focusing on advanced content, critical thinking skills, and creativity.
  • Design and facilitate enrichment activities, projects, and competitions to extend and deepen gifted students' learning experiences.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjust instruction as needed, and communicate regularly with students, parents, and stakeholders.
  • Serve as a resource and advocate for gifted education within the school and community, providing professional development and support to colleagues and parents.
  • Stay current with research and best practices in gifted education, attending workshops, conferences, and training sessions as needed.

SUPERVISION:

The Elementary Gifted Teacher works under the supervision of the School Principal in conjunction with the division coordinator for gifted programs.

WORK CONDITIONS:

Duties performed are typically in the school setting. Professional work is performed by providing support and consultative services for the assigned department/ program. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking, and light lifting. The work environment may involve occasional exposure to challenging behavior, emotional situations, and crisis incidents. Some assignments are subject to deadlines inherent in tailoring and delivering programs to meet the needs of diverse groups. Work requires assignments involving a great deal of interactions with people as well as meeting frequent deadlines. Employees may be required to perform emergency and non-emergency health-related services for students as needed.

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 200 days

*The salary noted is based on the 2023-24 school year. Salaries will be updated following the 2024-25 budget confirmation.
