Hood River County SD is Hiring a Spanish Teacher - 1.0 FTE - Hood River Valley High School Near Hood River, OR

This posting will remain open until filled; initial screening to begin May 7. This is a REGULAR postion and will begin with the 2024/25 school year in August 2024.

Job Purpose Statement:

The job of “Teacher - Classroom (Secondary)” is done for the purpose of developing students’ academic and interpersonal skills through academic courses of study and implementing District approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

The Spanish teacher will work closely with the high school World languages team to meet the needs of the students. The courses taught may include all levels - Spanish 1 through AP Spanish and first year Heritage Speakers.


Essential Job Functions
(Including but not limited to the following):

  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Assesses student for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations, goals, etc.
  • Assists other teachers for the purpose of implementing curriculum.
  • Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform assignments and/or skills (e.g. lab experiments, athletic techniques, etc.) for the purpose of providing the students with the necessary skills to perform the tasks safely and/or accurately.
  • Directs instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined course of study.
  • Monitors student activities (e.g. classroom, lunch, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Maintains consistent and predictable attendance to meet the needs of the students and the expectations of the District.
  • Prepares teaching materials and reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress.
  • Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, district and/or school policies.

Other Job Functions:

  • Performs other work as assigned by the high school principal or designee
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Valid Oregon Teaching license with World Langauge - Spanish endorsement.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • Native Spanish speaker preferred.
  • Ability to read, write and speak the Spanish language.
  • Ability to meet the attendance and physical requirements of the position.
  • Experience teaching high school preferred.
  • Experience with using a variety of differentiated instructional strategies with a diverse student body.
  • Experience working with English Language Learners preferred.

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance.


Knowledge
of age appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code, appropriate instructional subjects.


Abilities
to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, other school personnel, meet schedule and deadlines. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/ field of vision.


Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:

  • Possess a valid Oregon Teaching License with a PK-12 World Language - Spanish endorsement.

Any offer of employment made by Hood River County School District to an external candidate is contingent upon satisfactory results of:

The salary range listed below is for a 192 day contract. Employees filling a 'Bilingual Required' position will also receive a $2,500 bilingual stipend.
