Job Purpose Statements: The job of “Music Teacher” is done for the purpose of developing students’ music appreciation and skills through implementing District approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; developing lesson plans; addressing specific educational needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
Hood River Middle School is looking for a passionate, inspired, and student-centered music educator committed to program excellence. Our music program is very strong and well-supported by our community. It is housed in a stunning, four-year old band room, with practice rooms.
Essential Job Functions:
Job Requirements - Qualifications:
• Experience Required: Prior experience as a music teacher (instrumental and vocal), preferably at the middle school level.
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skills to motivate students in one or more areas of music, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance.
Knowledge of curriculum, education code, district policies, musical instruction and instrumentation.
Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, other school personnel, meet attendance, schedule and other deadlines. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/ field of vision.
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
The successful applicant will need to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug screen and nationwide criminal background check, if not a current district employee.
