Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include plywood, lumber manufacturing plants, and sixteen specialty wood product distribution operations, located in fourteen states serving northeast, southeast, and southwest United States.

Hood Industries, Inc is seeking aPlant Managerfor ourBeaumont, Mississippi facility. This is a greenfield site that will employ up to 250 employees. As a Plant Manager, you will play a high impact & critical role within the business by supporting the start-up, cultural development, and reliability initiative of the new Beaumont facility.

Purpose:

Lead the overall manufacturing operations by utilizing the Hood Management Philosophy of “The Hood Way” by engaging People and managing through Process to drive sustainable Performance while maintaining positive employee relations, meeting the company’s production goals, while operating within company policies, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities – Startup:

  • Partner with project team in construction, commissioning, and vertical startup of new manufacturing facility, ensuring project timelines and milestones are met.
  • Share accountability for the construction and commissioning of the new manufacturing facility.
  • Collaborate with project team, contractors, and vendors to ensure the facility is designed and built to meet production requirements and quality standards. Develop and implement operational plans to achieve production targets and maximize efficiency.
  • Coordinate with People Operations, Safety, and Manufacturing Operations team on hiring and training of the plant team, including production operators, technical leads, and maintenance.
  • Support the creation of reliability maintenance and continuous improvement culture across the facility.

Key Responsibilities – Day to Day:

  • Head the safety activities of the facility.
  • Manage the P&L to control conversion costs and maintain production targets.
  • Develop and execute operating plan for plant in accordance with company business plan.
  • Monitor and manage key performance indicators (KPI’s) for the plant, including budgets, productivity, inventories, safety, quality, etc.
  • Prepare and monitor quarterly, monthly, and weekly budgets and forecasts as required.
  • Work with team members and division staff to establish goals for plant performance in all areas.
  • Manage ongoing plant operations through supervisory staff.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to supervisors and manufacturing team. Drive teamwork among plant employees.
  • Resolve operating, scheduling, and production issues as needed.
  • Serve as the primary business contact with company level management on planning, operating, and production matters.
  • Consistently reinforce a commitment to customer-focus toward both internal and external customers.
  • Manage maintenance program through direct reports to support a robust reliability program.
  • Establish consistent processes, standards, andexpectations for the plant to ensure ongoing performance within company’s regulatory and legal requirements.
  • In coordination with the People Operations Manager, manage the human resources activities of the plant within company policies and guidelines.
  • Provide leadership for the plant and set an example of proper professional conduct for others.
  • Drive the continuous improvement process through direct reports.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • 10 years of manufacturing experience including direct supervisory experience.
  • 3 to 5 years demonstrated leadership of multiple departments within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement KPI’s to measure manufacturing plant effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Experience with managing budgets and allocating resources effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, production, procurement) on both day-to-day processes and projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to motivate and guide the operations team towards a culture of reliability and continuous improvement.

Preferred Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s level education.
  • Experience working in wood products.
  • Experience in a greenfield startup.
