The Purchasing Agent is responsible for the selection and procurement of products. The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, processing purchase orders, negotiating with suppliers, tracking orders, creating and maintaining product inventory, quality assurance and liaising with the warehouse team. The purchaser will work with teams across several departments to forecast the needs of the business and make purchase decisions based on demand. The purchasing agent should be analytical and have excellent negotiation skills to secure best pricing.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
· Research, select and purchase quality products and materials.
· Build relationships with suppliers and negotiate best pricing.
· Source suppliers, request quotes, and negotiate contracts within budgetary guidelines.
· Process requisitions and update management on status of orders.
· Update inventory and ensure that stock levels are kept at appropriate levels.
· Arrange the transport of goods and track orders to ensure timely delivery.
· Analyze market trends and apply this knowledge to make insightful buying decisions.
· Assess the quality of stock received and escalate any discrepancies to suppliers and management.
· Ensuring products are purchased in a timely manner.
· Researching new suppliers and making recommendations to leadership.
· Compiling reports on product performance and statistics.
· Make professional decisions in a fast-paced environment.
· Maintain records of purchases, pricing, and other important data.
Education requirements:
· Ability to read, write legibly and perform simple mathematical functions.
· High School Diploma or GED.
· Preferred 2 year degree in Logistics and Supply Chain or equivalent.
Experience/Knowledge/Abilities requirements:
· Demonstrated excellent communication, teamwork & critical thinking skills.
· Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) applications.
· Excellent attention to detail.
· Strong organizational and analytical skills.
· Ability to eliminate distractions and to be able to concentrate and analyze during the ordering process.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Proven ability to multi-task effectively and produce accurate, timely results in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
· Consistently demonstrate a positive approach, team-player attitude, and professional demeanor.
· Ability to be productive working independently or as part of a team.
