This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).*
To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position.
This title includes a traineeship opportunity and applicants will be appointed to the appropriate level** based on their experience and education.
**Auditor 1 levels based on required experienced and education:
- Auditor Trainee 1 (equated to SG-14): bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation OR bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses.
- Auditor Trainee 2 (equated to SG-16): bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation OR bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses AND one year of required experience.
- Auditor 1, SG-18: bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation OR bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses AND two years of required experience.
Required experience: professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles.
Substitutions:
Master's and higher-level degrees in accounting, auditing, or taxation will substitute for one year of required experience. Current valid Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license and registration issued by New York State will substitute for one year of required experience.
Applicants may be appointed to this position if currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title OR are a current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 12 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 or 70.4 of the Civil Service Law AND possess a bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation OR bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses.
Dependent upon qualifications, if appointed as a trainee, successful completion of a one-year or two-year traineeship leads to appointment as an Auditor 1, SG-18.
NOTE: Courses such as business law, economics, statistics, and most finance courses although completed as part of an accounting curriculum, cannot be counted toward the 24 semester credit hours. Transcripts will be required for appointment. Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States or its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to speak comfortably with various group sizes and levels of professionals.
- Previous audit or monitoring experience and strong writing skills are preferred.
