The Marketing Manager – Creative Services & Social Media team member plays a key role that will drive community growth, engagement, loyalty, and donations by leveraging the strength of the Homeboy Industries (HBI) brand across all online and offline platforms. Working closely with the Marketing Director, the Marketing Manager will create and execute marketing initiatives that drive awareness and loyalty of the HBI portfolio of brands. Additionally, by creating compelling photography, videos and copy, the Marketing Manager will own the management of the organization’s online presence. This exciting position holds great potential for someone who wants to grow in their career while directly making an impact on people’s lives. With an actively engaged social following of 500k , an established email audience, and an overall beloved brand, the Marketing Manager will work closely with the Marketing Director and various Homeboy Industries stakeholders to independently and collaboratively manage initiatives that have to potential to reach hundreds of thousands of people daily. To effectively communicate on Homeboy Industries’ platforms, the Manager will be expected to actively engage in the mission and vision of the organization. Additionally, they should be able to work well with a wide population of people ranging from clients and outside agencies to donors and senior staff.This position requires someone who is agile, pro-active and can work effectively with minimal direction. They must have a bias for teamwork, action and positivity. Additionally, as a member within the larger Development department they should be able to prioritize a full workload with focus and finesse.  

Key Responsibilities

Marketing - 60%
  • Execute on development fundraising campaigns that drive entry-level giving (e.g., Giving Tuesday, monthly giving, annual giving, peer-to-peer giving, and specific projects)
  • Collaborate with Social Enterprise Marketing Manager on creative efforts related to supporting HBI’s social enterprises (e.g. Homeboy Bakery, Homeboy Farmer’s Market, Homegirl Catering, Homeboy Silkscreen, etc.). Ranging from creating graphics and copy for online promotions to designing coupons and menus.
  • Create marketing collateral for annual organization events (e.g. Homeboy 5K Run/Walk, Lo Maximo, Family Picnic, etc.).
  • Serve as project manager in the production of brand marketing collateral. Work directly with vendors and creative agencies to develop projects.
Digital Marketing - 40%
  • Work with Marketing Director to refine and execute against digital marketing strategy. 
  • Serve as primary community manager for HBI on all social media platforms (primarily Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn). Core responsibilities include answering all inbound queries, proactively engaging with supporters within organizational guidelines, and escalating urgent needs for swift organizational response.
  • Manage daily social content editorial calendar; coordinate with internal team and external team members to receive necessary approvals and assets to launch.
  • Interview clients and copyright stories that speak authentically and ethically of their journeys toward transformation.
  • Analyze and report on digital marketing campaigns and recommend ways to improve.
  • Monitor online conversations and recommend opportunities to communicate relevant, engaging stories across social channels.
The key priority projects include and are not limited to:
  • Manage social media content creation.
  • Develop the monthly e-newsletter.
  • Annual Gala Lo Maximo
    • Manage Brand/key art development and all collateral.
  • Summer direct mail piece
  • CEO Fall letter direct mail piece.
  • Annual Homeboy 5K fundraiser
    • Manage Brand/key art development and all collateral.
  • Q4/End-of-Year Giving
    • Giving Tuesday digital campaign (email and social media)
    • Two direct mail campaigns with digital/email versions
  • Support and collaborate with Social Enterprise Marketing Manager for holiday shopping and giving promotions.
  • Support and collaborate with Media Relations Manager on monthly email creation and distribution.
  • Maintain website updates.
 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or equivalent experience.
  • 4 years communications or marketing experience in an agency, nonprofit, or corporation
  • Professional experience managing branded social networking channels such as: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok
  • Strong written communication skills, with excellent grammar and spelling and outstanding attention to detail
  • Self-motivated, independent with the ability to work well within a team.
  • Flexible; possessing an entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to wear different "hats."
  • Meet tight deadlines, often on short notice.
  • Problem solver with a bias for getting things done.
  • Team player who looks for opportunities to contribute to overall team success.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for events and offsite promotions.
  • Keen design eye
  • Experience using Mailchimp, Blackbaud, WordPress, and/or other CMS.
  • Computer skills (Mac proficiency required): Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube best practices
  • Personal interest in emerging technology, with demonstrated participation in social media.
  • Basic video editing skills (iMovie or other)
  • Basic photography / photo editing skills
  • Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, In Design, Reader)
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics and/or other analytical platforms
