JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Landlord Engagement Specialist

Reports To: Housing Manager

Based at: Headquarters

Status: Full-time, Contract (until 6-30-2024)

Job Purpose: The Landlord Engagement Specialist provides landlord recruitment, engagement and retention for clients participating in Home of the Sparrow housing programs in order to increase the supply of affordable housing in McHenry County.

Key Responsibilities:

 Develop and maintain marketing materials for landlords that highlight the advantages of

working with community agencies.

 Expand the network of landlords which Home of the Sparrow partners with.

 Perform landlord recruitment efforts by meeting with interested landlords and apartment complexes to discuss the advantages of working with Home of the Sparrow.

 Maintain and continuously update a list of landlords that work with Home of the Sparrow.

 Assist in mediation between landlords and tenants in order to ensure good working relationship with landlord.

 Conduct landlord survey twice annually.

 Participate in committees both internally and externally involving landlord or housing needs.

 Provide case management, client-centered consultation, and community support services to

Housing clients, involving other providers as needed.

 Coordinate and conduct informal and educational seminars for current and potential landlords

 Explore the possibility of developing a community-based fund that landlords may be eligible to withdraw from in order to cover expenses of damages.

 Manage a small caseload of 3-5 clients.

 Conduct criteria screenings and in-person interviews with prospective clients.

 Assist client with lease review and understanding.

 Prepare check requisitions for needed financial assistance with appropriate receipt

documentation.

 Provide intensive case management resulting in housing attainment within 30 days of intake for homeless women and children.

 Meet with clients at least 2x monthly or more if needed, providing services such as budgeting, employment assistance, advocacy, life skills building and more.

 Complete Individual Treatment Plans and Biopsychosocial Assessments every six months.

 Manage wait list for Housing programs, including gathering the necessary documents to qualify for program.

 Provide referrals and linkages as needed to community partners and provide discharge planning and coordination for Housing programs.

 Meet with Housing Manger for supervision at least monthly.

 Attend and fully participate in all Team meetings.

 Attend and fully participate in all scheduled trainings as required by Agency.

 Manage resident move-ins and move-outs and coordinate with Logistics Team.

 Document interventions in resident charts.

 Provide aftercare services when needed.

 Relate positively to the community, representing HOS in a positive manner at all times.

 Complete monthly and quarterly reports and outcome data as required.

 Participate in agency reviews and audits.

 Complete Monthly billing for Mental Health Board.

 Manage data reporting for HMIS system.

 May be required to work evenings or weekends to meet client needs.

Knowledge & Skills:

 Strong written and verbal communication skills.

 Previous experience working with high-barrier populations.

 Good problem solver and strong attention to details.

 Ability to work independently, as well as with a team.

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Physical Demands:

 Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

 Balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and reaching are required.

 Sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Qualifications:

 Bachelor Degree required.
