Job Title: Shelter Manager

Reports To: Director of Program Services

Based at: Shelter

Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Job Purpose: The Shelter Manager is responsible for maintaining a healthy, safe, and supportive shelter environment, while offering Case Management, Client-Centered Consultation, and Community Support to clients and children as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that the shelter is operating in a safe, clean and healthy manner at all times.
  • Meets with the Director of Program Services at least two times per month for clinical supervision.
  • Attends and fully participates in all scheduled trainings required by the agency.
  • Ensures that Home of the Sparrow rules, as defined in the Shelter Rules and Philosophy document, are being upheld by shelter staff.
  • Works with the Quality Improvement Manager to ensure that all interventions by Shelter Staff are documented appropriately in resident charts, adhering to the Shelter Guidelines on documentation.
  • Follows all emergency procedures as needed.
  • Relates positively to the community and shelter staff members, representing HOS in a positive manner at all times.
  • Creates and maintains professional relationships with community organizations to best meet the needs of the clients HOS serves.
  • Identifies and addresses gaps in services.
  • Works with the Quality Improvement Manager and Director of Program Services to oversee the data entry for all shelter clients into the HMIS and Billing database systems.
  • Assists the Quality Manager with correcting data errors in order to help maintain the integrity of the system.
  • Oversees and handles any issues revolving around client 30-day notices, crisis intervention/de-escalation, and staff/client conflict resolution.
  • Attends and fully participates in the monthly Safety Committee Meeting.
  • Participates in the On-Call rotation.
  • Attends and fully participates at all Team Meetings.
  • Works with the quality Improvement Manager and Director of Programs to discuss and approve CARF standards for the shelter and oversees the implementation once CARF accredited.
  • Supervises and or completes ordering for client move-ins, move-outs, shelter supplies, office supplies, and gift cards.
  • Coordinates resident move-ins and move-outs with the Intake Manager, observing Shelter Guidelines, and assigns related tasks to shelter staff members.
  • Reads and follows Individual Plans for all clients, providing Case Management, Client Centered Consultation, and Community Support as indicated.
  • Verifies that Shelter Staff are following Individual Plans appropriately.
  • Assigns Shelter Staff members to organize and facilitate Book Buddies Program, Child Care Volunteers for Thursday night programming, and any other necessary volunteers as it pertains to a client’s IP.
  • Ensures that Shelter Staff are greeting and showing appreciation to volunteers.
  • Assigns weekly shelter duties to Shelter Staff.
  • Oversees petty cash and turns in Petty Cash Reconciliation Report at the end of every month to the Director of Program Services.
  • Oversees the distribution of gift cards and turns in necessary gift card receipts and Gift Card Log at the end of every month to the Director of Program Services.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong experience working with those experiencing homelessness, which includes those with past trauma and domestic violence clients.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong background in mental health programs and high-barrier populations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Meets with Shelter Staff members for supervision at least monthly, or more frequently if indicated.
  • Supervises Shelter Staff.
  • Interviews and hires for open positions as it pertains to the shelter.
  • Coordinates new hire training using the Shelter Staff Training Manual. Assigns components of new staff training to Shelter Staff as needed.
  • Confirms that the Shelter Staff members are conducting daily safety and maintenance inspections.
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations for Shelter Staff Members.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and reaching are required.
  • Sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field Required.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience supervising staff Required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $52,000.00 - $57,000.00 per year
