Role Summary:

We are seeking experienced hospice volunteers to join our team. This role is vital in enhancing our patients' quality of life through companionship, emotional support, and assistance with non-medical tasks. As a hospice volunteer, you will play an essential part in our holistic approach, offering comfort and care that respects the dignity and wishes of our patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide companionship and emotional support to patients and their families, helping to alleviate feelings of isolation and depression.
  • Assist with practical tasks such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, errands, and transportation to appointments, as needed.
  • Offer respite care for families, allowing them time to rest and take care of personal needs.
  • Participate in bereavement support programs, offering comfort and support to families coping with grief and loss.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect for patient and family privacy at all times.
  • Attend regular training sessions and participate in volunteer meetings to enhance skills and knowledge related to hospice care.
  • Work closely with the hospice care team to provide updates on patient needs and progress.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a hospice volunteer or in a similar role providing care and support to individuals at the end of life.
  • Demonstrated compassion, empathy, and a deep understanding of the needs of hospice patients and their families.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to offer support in sensitive situations.
  • Ability to commit to a regular volunteering schedule, with flexibility to meet the changing needs of our patients and their families.
  • Must pass a background check and complete any necessary health screenings as required by state regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation if assisting with patient transportation or errands.
