Job Summary:
The teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by guiding, inspiring, and educating students in a loving, Christ-centered environment. The Teacher is to immediately be responsible to the Principal for the carrying out of policies of the school and the Archdiocese of San Antonio as they relate to the function of the school, the classroom, and the immediate contact with students and parents.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio, including the Religious
Standards for Catholic School Employees
· Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
· Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic School
· Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
· Directs and evaluates the learning experience of the student in both curricular and extracurricular activities
· Provides guidance to student that promotes his or her welfare and Christian educational development; refer students with
problems to those qualified to help
· Carries out carefully constructed physical education lesson plans and maintains documentation of instructional planning
· Carries out the disciplinary policies of the school
· Attends and participates in PTC, Faculty and PE/Athletic meetings
· Attends and participates in the scheduled number of In-Service days required ty TCCED and the Archdiocese
· Communicates effectively with students, parents, and other professionals
· Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
· Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff
· Maintain accurate electronic grade book
· Supervises extracurricular athletic activities
· Supervises arrival and dismissal of students and assists in the supervision of students as needed
· Responsible for developing an efficient distance learning model in Physical Education/Athletics classes
· Uses the appropriate digital learning management system
IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Cooperates with and participates in the planning and evaluation of the school Physical Education and Athletic Programs
· Cooperates with and assists the Principal in improving the Physical Education and Athletic curriculum and instructional program
· Maintains good relationships and works cooperatively with many people, such as principals, pastors, clergy, archdiocesan officials,
department heads, supervisors, fellow teachers, teacher aides, students, parents, secretaries and custodians, in planning activities
and policies relating to the school and athletic program
· Maintains liaison with parents including, but not limited to, holding informal meetings with parents at school or conducting formal
parent conferences
· Keeps abreast of advances in physical education and athletics, particularly by reading recent publications
· Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing
· Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal
· Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of
students
· Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
SPECIFIC ATHLETIC COACH DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Understand and follow all Archdiocese safety procedures and guidelines
· Organize and administer the overall program of extracurricular athletics, both intramural and AIAL
· Foster good school-community relations by keeping the community informed in all aspects of the Archdiocese athletic programs
· Organize and schedule all AIAL athletic events
· Arrange transportation for athlete participants
· Hire officials and security as required, and assume general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games
· Develop and place into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities both elementary
and secondary schools
· Establish the physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport and verify each athlete’s eligibility
· Work with the principal in preparing and administering the athletic program budget
· Supervise the cleaning, storage and care of all athletic equipment
· Supervise all ticket sales and fundraising events connected with the athletic program, and assume responsibility for proper
handling and accounting of moneys involved
· Arrange all details of visiting teams’ needs
· Make all necessary arrangements for the use of non-school playing fields and facilities
· Provide for the physical examination of all athletes prior to the beginning of each season
· Keep records of the results of all athletic events and maintain a record file of all award winners, stating the date and type of
award, including athletic scholarships
· Responsible for the cancellations and make-up of the athletic events because of weather in accordance to the Archdiocese
directive for school cancellation
· Assure that all athletic events held at the school are properly supervised, security provided, officials are secured and that the
facility is ready for the sport’s activity to take place
· Make reports of the physical conditions of the athletic facilities at the school to the principal
· Shall attend all athletic AIAL Archdiocese meetings
· Develop a list for all sports equipment with a rating scale of Excellent, Good, Fair and Poor to make decisions with the principal for
replacement of athletic equipment
· Perform other duties as related to the position as assigned by the Principal.

· Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
· Knowledge of the curriculum, instructional methods/strategies, and curriculum differentiation
· Knowledge of child development, learning and behavior

WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Required to work some nights and weekends for school and athletic events
· Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress
· Required to work a minimum of a full school day
· Required to work in standard classroom and school conditions
· Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing
· Move and lift classroom equipment and other athletic equipment 10-100 pounds
· Required to perform repetitive physical tasks
· Required to monitor students in a variety of locations including those with noise, activity and inclement weather
· Work indoors and outdoors in varying climate conditions

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A Bachelor’s Degree in content area
2. Preferable in Physical Education, Kinesiology or Physiology Texas Teacher Certification
3. 12 credit hours in education/physical education courses or a valid and appropriate state certificate, as outlined in the Texas
Catholic Conference Education Department standards.
4. Technology proficiency in the areas of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and internet use for educational purposes and
multimedia presentations.
5. Preferred practicing Catholic in good standing with a commitment to ongoing formation in catechetical and spiritual leadership
development.
