Position Overview:
Will assist the program supervisor with implementation of the recruitment and retention plans for foster homes. Certifies foster homes according to Department of Child Welfare Licensing (DCWL) standards. Responsible for training and development plans of foster parents. Will be required to complete special evaluations as well as support to assist foster parents in becoming compliant with DCWL standards.
Responsibilities:
  • Recruit new foster families. Develops short/long term recruitment goals by consulting and planning with internal/external referral sources. Provides and/or presents information to media, clubs, churches, and other organizations regarding program.
  • Provides initial intake and screening for prospective foster families. Conducts central registry and police record checks. Assess the safety and conditions of the foster home to ensure compliance with DWCL standards.
  • Completes orientation with prospective foster parents.
  • Will license foster homes according to DCWL standards. Will complete required reports(Initial Home studies, Annual and Renewals as well as Children’s Foster Care Relative Placement Home Study).
  • Maintains foster home files. Will use the state approved automated child welfare information system for report writing and record keeping.
  • In collaboration with foster parents, will assist in the planning and development of initial and ongoing foster family training.
  • Investigates suspected non-compliance of foster families regarding licensing requirements. Collects testimony and other evidence as needed. Determines if license should be revoked. Submits report of revocation to DCWL.
  • May be required to attend family team meetings, court hearings and home visits as deemed necessary.
  • Will maintain monthly contact with the assigned foster care worker when licensing relative homes.
  • Submits necessary documentation required to monitor foster families and maintain licensing and contractual obligations.
  • May be required to provides 24-hour crisis on-call availability to foster parents.
  • Will be required to transport.
  • Will practice and support the use of Mi-Team principles in daily interactions with staff, services providers, and families.
  • Continues development through professional literature and participation in various conferences, seminars, and professional organizations.
  • Responsible for teaching, modeling, practicing, supporting, and articulating the Agency's treatment philosophy and/or others
  • Performs other duties as related to the essential duties of the position and within the individual’s capabilities as assigned byone's supervisor.
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following:
    • Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Sciences; Education; Community
      Development; Law Enforcement; Forensic Psychology; Gerontology; Special Education; Education of the
      emotionally disturbed; Education of the gifted; Behavioral Science; Community Services; Counseling
      (Psychology); Criminal Justice (Administration); Early Childhood Studies; Family Ecology; Family Life Education, Family Studies; Family land/or Child Development; Guidance/School Counseling; Human Development and Family Studies' Human Services; Psychology; Social Work; Sociology (OR) a Bachelor’s degree of another major with at least 30 semester credits in one or a combination of the approved degrees.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Lived experience with the child welfare system and/or experiencing child abuse strongly preferred.
