Holt Truck Centers of TX is Hiring a Truck Service Technician - HTT Near Tyler, TX

Job Summary: Diagnoses, repairs, reconditions, and adjusts key systems and components of On-Highway Trucks and related equipment. The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices daily: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development.

Essential Functions:

  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses basic engine malfunctions and failures with supervision
  • Performs basic engine and related equipment repairs on trucks and trailers with supervision
  • Uses computers and related software to assist in diagnosing and reprogramming engines
  • Completes documentation for service reports, timecards, parts requisition, and returns
  • Interprets and utilizes information from operating, maintenance, online resources, and service manuals/bulletins
  • Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates
  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations
  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and the vehicle in good, clean, and working order
  • Communicates job progress to supervisor and customer as needed
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
  • Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance
  • Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates the ability to improve time in the disassembly, inspection, determining parts required, and reassembly of repairs
  • General knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge and proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and On-Highway Truck electronic systems diagnostic tooling
  • Operation and control skills of On-Highway Trucks & Trailers
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional skills in customer service
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to follow logical troubleshooting procedures
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to operate a conventional forklift
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair & overhead crane
  • Ability to operate an On-Highway Truck on public roads
  • Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • Ability to read, write, and understand information
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences

Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Technical schooling preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of on-highway truck service required
  • ASE – Medium/Heavy Truck Certification one or more preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Travel:

  • Some Travel

Additional Requirements:

  • Must own and maintain the necessary tools to efficiently perform the job
  • Valid driver’s license

Physical Requirements:

  • A significant amount of time spent standing
  • Constant movement and use of hands, this position requires good manual dexterity
  • Communication with customers and constant communication with co-workers
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
  • Lifts and moves materials and equipment up to 50 lb
  • Occasional kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling, reaching, and balancing
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet, and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment

Work Environment:

  • Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts
  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
  • Frequently works in an enclosed vehicle or equipment
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
  • Exposure to high noise levels
  • Works in extremely bright or inadequate lighting
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment
  • Exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings
