Holston Medical Group, PC is Hiring an Occupational Therapist Near Kingsport, TN

General Summary:

The Occupational Therapist/Certified Hand Therapist is responsible for evaluating/assessing needs of patients and formulating treatment plans based on the specific needs of the patient. The Occupational Therapist/Certified Hand Therapist will work cooperatively with physicians and other healthcare providers to provide the therapy services defined in the treatment plan. This position may supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants and Rehab Technicians in the process of meeting patient needs.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate patients and/or interview family members to assess needs based on the patients daily functions/work functions.
  • This position will share responsibility for outpatient hand and upper extremity patients, working with PT.
  • Formulate a treatment plan for the patient and collaborate with other healthcare providers as needed.
  • Provide patient with encouragement and emphasize “self-responsibility” for success to achieve goals to maximize functional improvement.
  • Reassess and modify treatments (observing precautions) routinely to improve function and return patients to their normal life pattern.
  • Document tests, findings, symptoms, and therapeutic treatments for each patient carefully, utilizing the EMR. (Electronic Medical Records)
  • Ensure that complete Holston Medical Group Rehabilitation Services discharge practices are followed for each patient.
  • Assist in creating an integrated care environment that is efficient, safe, and cost effective.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and continues to apply themselves in evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Continues to further knowledge and keep abreast of the OT community.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment/and equipment.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements.
  • Build quality relationships with patients, physicians/providers, and co-workers.

Education/Experience/Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree/Doctoral Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Tennessee license, NBCOT certification & BCLS required.
  • CHT credential preferred but those interested in working toward certification encouraged to apply.
  • Thermal and electrical modality certification preferred, custom splinting experience a plus.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in hand/upper extremity orthopedics preferred.
  • Must possess good diagnostic and clinical skills.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with others.
  • Willing to train support staff and students accordingly.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature. Perform with frequent interruptions and/ or distractions. Make appropriate job decisions following standard office policies and past precedents. Adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the public. Ability to interact appropriately with colleagues and patients for different purposes and different context. Frequently operates a computer. Complete heavy workload within timeframe. Works independently and identify potentially more effective methods of work operations.

Marginal: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 25% of the time. Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds occasionally. Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. Observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
