Here at Holman, our MHE Operators are key advocates for our employees and proponents of our company culture. While they are directly responsible for local driving a lift truck and transporting materials between loading, unloading, processing, and storage areas, their value is in their ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly. We rely on them for their ability to work independently with minimal supervision and their ability to maintain a level of production that meets or exceeds the established guidelines, as well as their desire to grow and develop themselves and other employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
  • Operates a lift truck by driving backwards and twisting to be able to look in the direction of travel on a continual basis.
  • Operates a lift truck all shift.
  • Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance on vehicles and auxiliary equipment, such as cleaning or recharging batteries, and refer defects or repairs to supervisor/maintenance.
  • Moves controls to drive lift trucks and transport materials between loading, unloading, processing, and storage areas.
  • Moves levers and controls that operate lifting devices, such as forklifts, lift beams and swivel-hooks, hoists, and elevating platforms, to load, unload, transport, and stack material.
  • Positions lifting devices under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, and boxes, and secure material or products for transport to designated areas.
  • Manually loads or unloads materials onto or off pallets, skids, platforms, or lifting devices.
  • Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance on vehicles and auxiliary equipment.
  • Reliable attendance for scheduled shifts.
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or needed

Material Handler Functional Categories

Function categories often describe certain Material Handler positions; however, all material handlers will be expected to learn and have proficiency in each function category.

Receiving –

  • Unloads products from tractor-trailers and rail containers (manually and with equipment).
  • Verifies product received is identified and counted accurately.
  • Inspects condition of received product, remove damaged or non-conforming products. Process defective product as per standard operating procedure.
  • Scans pallet barcode using RF equipment.
  • Moves and places product safely and securely in its proper storage location using heavy equipment.

Stager/Order Picker –

  • Receives and evaluates printed order for order selection and preparation requirements.
  • Fills orders by accurately picking product from storage areas utilizing pre-determined product stacking guidelines.
  • Uses scanning device and computer as needed to ensure order accuracy.
  • Corrects shortages, over-counts and incorrect batch codes as needed.

Truck Loaders –

  • Moves products from staging areas and/or directly from storage into trailer.
  • Inspects trucks for quality and sanitary requirements.
  • Verifies markings, trailer numbers, and shipping documents.
  • Fills truck using designated loading patterns and guidelines.
  • Properly secures the load for travel.

  • Attendance - Ability to work required schedule and arrive at work on time. Ability and willingness to work the voluntary/mandatory overtime that is required during all busy seasons.
  • Communication - Ability to effectively communicate (in writing and verbally) in a courteous and professional manner with others. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Mathematics- Ability to perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Language – Ability to identify and compare letters and numbers. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read and write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Diversity Oriented - Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.
  • Relationship Building - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, co-workers and management.
  • Productivity - Ability to maintain a level of production that meets or exceeds the established guidelines. Ability to work independently without interruptions.
  • Paperwork - Completion - Ability to complete necessary paperwork neatly and accurately and according to established guidelines. Properly count, document or scan the number of units as needed by the function that is being performed.
  • Paperwork - Verification - Ability to verify paperwork necessary to ensure customer is receiving correct product. Ability to inspect condition of product received and product going out to ensure quality. Ability to complete evaluations on progress of Team Members.
  • Organized – Ability to follow a systematic method of performing a task. Ability to direct other and delegate tasks.
  • Accountability - Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
  • Accuracy - Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
  • Experience: One (1) to two (2)s year related experience in warehouse environment.
  • Computer Skills: Basic scanner technology.
  • Certificates & Licenses: Valid State Driver’s License; Forklift Certification preferred.
