About This Position

HOERBIGER Rotary Solutions, The Deublin Company, is seeking a Piping Designer / Project Manager to join our team in Waukegan, IL. The Piping Designer is responsible for mechanical piping and pipe support design for steam and condensate systems in paper mills. This includes extensive field work for creation of accurate P&ID’s and PFD’s, providing engineering design support for all stages of capital projects, performing stress analysis modeling for approval and ASME Code Compliance, including reports.

Successful candidate should have five years’ experience in steam piping (preferable in paper industry) as well as experience in project management, estimating, equipment procurement, construction management and field supervision.

When not traveling, this position will work in the office four days per week with one day per week remote. Position requires 30% to 50% travel (some international); sometimes on short notice.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Execute and manage steam and condensate projects, with the process engineer, to achieve the technical, operational and financial goals of the project.
  • Conduct field surveys of existing piping systems for P&ID and PFD creation, piping design and proposal creation.
  • Collaborate with the process engineer to establish and document equipment and piping specifications and sizing requirements to meet the technical and operational requirements of the project.
  • Interact with customers to establish project scoping and development of project requirements.
  • Participate in project meetings with customers to ensure proper execution of projects.
  • Prepare proposals, datasheets, and written specifications.
  • Assist paper mills with troubleshooting.
  • Conduct operator training at customer location.
  • Ensure that the piping installations adhere to the P&IDs.
  • Participate in on-site start-up and post-start-up of system
Requirements
  • Minimum five years’ experience in mechanical process steam piping design. Experience with paper machines, paper drying and paper machine drying equipment is preferred.
  • Completely fluent using AutoCAD for creating and editing P&ID’s and PFD’s. Fluency using AutoCad Plant 3D is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Outlook, MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat.
  • Knowledge of piping, valve, pump, transmitter, insulation and other specifications used in paper mill steam systems.
  • A full and thorough understanding of P&ID’s and PFD.
  • Knowledge of pipe support basics (supporting, guiding and anchoring).
  • Experience with large bore steam piping design.
  • Exceptionally high level of personal responsibility regarding working safely in hazardous environments.
  • Highly organized and systematic in approach to field work and subsequent CAD work to successfully manage projects spanning long time periods.
  • Requires two-year technical degree; BS Mechanical engineering preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical literature. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be able to travel (fly/drive) between 30% to 50% of time; requires valid Driver License.
  • Position works alternately in the office and at customer locations. Customer locations are industrial settings. Candidate must be capable of navigating physically challenging field conditions, including heat, stairs, ladders.
