HISPANIC SERVICES COUNCIL is Hiring an Accounting Coordinator Near Tampa, FL

Organizational History and Background Description:

Established in 1992, Hispanic Services Council’s mission is to increase access and opportunities for Latinos and influence the systems that serve them. HSC is a private, non-profit organization whose work focuses on developing opportunities that result in an educated, healthy, prosperous, and engaged Latino community. To achieve our mission and purpose, our programs focus on increasing the academic performance of Latino children through parental involvement, improving healthy living and nutrition, and improving the quality of life through civic engagement of Latinos at all levels in our community.

Position Summary:

The Accounting Coordinator reports directly to the Finance Manager and will primarily be responsible for preparing, recording and administering Payroll and Benefits, Accounts Payable, General Ledger and assisting with other financial reporting processes. Additional activities include providing back-up administrative support as needed. Based on the duties described below, this is a part-time non-exempt position with some benefits. .

Scope of Responsibilities:

Payroll

Serve as main contact for payroll-related assistance and information to staff

· Process and track payroll, time sheets, hours worked, taxes, benefits, etc. to MIP

· Prepare bi-weekly payroll journal entries.

· Review and electronically transmit approved direct deposit payroll transactions, including 403(b).

Accounts Payable

· Review all invoices for correct verification, coding, approvals and overall accuracy and whether budget exists for the expenditures.

· Process, enter and post accounts payable for check runs.

· Process and post approved grant checks from all funds.

· Assist in preparing checks for signature and mailing.

· Review “requests for payment” for all payments made to independent contractors to determine if amounts to be paid comply with contractual agreements with the contractors.

· Prepare, file and distributes year-end 1099 reports in a timely fashion.

General Ledger

· Initiate and assist in preparing and entering journal entries to record transactions.

· Prepare summaries, reports and recommendations where necessary.

· Assist the Finance Manager in preparing and reconciling general ledger accounts.

· Assist in conducting the timely month-end closing.

Financial Reporting

· Research, collect, compile, and analyze information from various sources on a variety of specialized accounting topics.

· Prepare and distribute in a timely fashion various ad-hoc accounting-related reports.

· Prepare, review and distribute quarterly fund statements.

· Prepare reports as required by funders, Board of Directors, Executive Director and Finance Manger

General

· Assist with administrative functions of the agency, providing support to office and team.

o Monitor and purchase supplies along with organizing supplies and office records.

o Orders phones/computers and other equipment as need arises

o Assist with technological needs and access for agency staff.

o Assist with correspondence and communication from vendors, property management, insurance agent/carrier, etc.

o Organize and maintain HR files and periodic review and updating of HR policies

o Assist in onboarding of new staff

· Serve as back-up support for the Finance Manager

o Participate in the development and implementation of new or revised accounting programs, systems, procedures, and methods of operation.

o Assists and supports the Finance Manager in preparation of internal or external audits.

· Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Finance Manager.

Desired Qualifications:

· Associate’s degree or Technical Certifications with major course work in accounting or a related field.

· 2-3 years accounting experience including payroll and accounts payable.

· Knowledge of GAAP and FASB requirements as they apply to nonprofit agencies required.

· Excellent knowledge of accounting procedures and 1099 preparation.

· High proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word.

· Attention to detail with accurate data entry skills.

· Proven ability to meet deadlines.

· Must be highly organized and capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities.

· Excellent interpersonal skills.

· Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to maintain strict confidence.

· Experience with payroll processing, grant-making, NPOs, investments, and working with integrated databases desirable.

· Must have a “hands on” approach to all tasks required to be completed.

· Must be flexible to adapt quickly to a growing organization.· Good interpersonal skills and ability to translate financial concepts to non-financial staff and the ability to work in a team environment

· Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles

· Outstanding attention to detail and proofing ability

· Superior professionalism, judgment and integrity

Other: Must demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States. Must pass required background pre-employment screening. Must be able to communicate effectively in Spanish and English.
