Hispanic Federation is Hiring a Vice President for Communication Strategy Near New York, NY

Who We Seek

Hispanic Federation (HF) is seeking a talented and dynamic Vice President for Communication Strategy to lead strategy across HF’s communication platforms, website, and print and digital media; understand and manage a cohesive organizational voice; develop and execute public relations plans and messaging; and manage the creation of collateral to articulate and support HF’s mission and message to different audiences. The Vice President for Communication Strategy will ensure that HF is viewed as the primary source and clearinghouse of information within its diverse network and constituent base for issues affecting the Latino Community in the United States and Puerto Rico.

The Vice President will work closely with a senior peer group within the organization as the communications partner on a variety of strategic initiatives and report to the Senior Vice President for Policy and Communication. The Vice President will also oversee the work of the communication team based out of Washington DC and New York City and consultants used by the Federation’s regional offices and within specific focus areas. Through this work, the Vice President will need to create a streamlined and consistent narrative and voice to tell HF’s story to a diverse set of audiences.

The position will also supervise a team, focused on strategic outreach, traditional media and website and digital communications.

Reports to: Senior Vice President for Policy and Communications

Location: New York City or Washington, DC

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communication plan across Hispanic Federation’s audiences in collaboration with the HF leadership team comprised of program leads, Senior Vice Presidents, state and regional directors, and so others.
  • Direct the work of communication consultants across HF’s regions and programs; provide guidance, manage and edit drafts, and secure final approvals for materials, campaign collaboration, and media presence.
  • Manage the creation of content for various platforms and media; prepare copy and draft pieces as required; ensure messaging engages audience segments and leads to measurable engagement across all platforms, including social media and traditional press engagement (op-eds, media advisory, and press releases).
  • Prepare the spokespersons for HF for press events, including media interviews, across different platforms; cultivate and develop program staff to serve as spokespersons to uplift their aeras of work.
  • Test the effectiveness of communications activities; place communications vehicles to create momentum and awareness of HF activities and increase visibility of HF and its members.
  • Own HF's website administration and coordination; ensure all top line announcements are properly reflected within HF’s website and platforms.
  • Oversee the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, press releases, newsletters, brochures, annual report, e-newsletters, and HF's website; prepare drafts and manage edits as required.
  • Develop and organize HF events that showcase work done by HF and its network members to discrete audiences, including small scale press events, panels, speaker engagements and others.
  • Lead in developing relationships with media contacts, prepare pitches and prime stories for release, preparing spokespersons for interviews and press conferences.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree and at least six (6) years of communications experience with two (2) years of experience leading a team for a national nonprofit required
  • Experience in a nonprofit setting, covering areas such as website content, newsletters, and donor communications is expected
  • Ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and engaging messaging, disseminating it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels is critical
  • Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
  • Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to "manage by influence"
  • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
  • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives

Benefits:

Salary is commensurate with experience starting at $100,000; benefits package includes fully paid vacation, paid medical, dental, and vision insurance, and matching retirement plan.
