JOB SUMMARY

Manages the health and medical program of the entire district in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and current health data. Manages projects with community organizations and implements community health projects in the school setting. Administers the health services budget. Analyzes and interprets data for the development and recommendation of health related policies such as ozone level, blood borne pathogen program, HIV/AIDS, etc. Interprets health and medical policies for district administrators, grant development, and management.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Compiles, disseminates and monitors a district annual plan of target dates for all state health reports.
  • Investigates, plans, coordinates, and evaluates communicable disease outbreaks and activities in the schools. Gathers, compiles, and submits reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Obtains and interprets medical evaluations of school personnel.
  • Develops and promotes school health policies and practices that reflect current school health trends, cultural sensitivity and equitable access to care.
  • Optimizes financial resources to support current and future health initiatives. 
  • Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost and impact on practice in planning and delivery of school health services.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders and other stakeholders 
  • Enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and the delivery of school health services
  • Employs strategies and partnerships that foster health promoton, health education and the delivery of equitable school health services and resources.
  • Strives to resolve conflicting expectations from populations, providers and other stakeholders to promote safety and wellbeing of the individual, organizational best interests and preserve professional integrity of the nurse.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

  • Ensures that guidelines reflect evidence based practice that address emerging health problems.
  • Participates in the evaluation and regulation of nursing practice standards.
  • Implements strategies to measure, assess and improve the quality of care, treatment and services for an effective, ongoing school health program.
  • Analyzes data and monitors school health trends to determine professional development for nurses. Selects appropriate presenters and works with the Online Design team to develop online modules to meet any mandated health training requirements district wide. 
  • Examines and synthesizes complex data and information to determine health issues, problems or trends.
  • Implements intitatives to address health trends and resolve gaps in knowledge to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Master's Degree, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Licensed Registered Nurse

WORK EXPERIENCE

7 years in school health

SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

Registered Nurse
SAP, HTML, Microsoft Office, Chancery
Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier)

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages. Accomplishes the majority of work objectives through the management of direct reports. Provides day-to-day direction to staff; may become directly involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems. Responsible for assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring application of policies and procedures. Receives assignments in the form of objectives, with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides input to hiring, performance and budget.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing direction on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

BUDGET AUTHORITY

Participates in a group plan and/or budget development.

PROBLEM SOLVING

Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is often expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

Decisions have high impact to the facility/department or division, causing increased satisfaction or dissatisfaction; producing efficiencies or delays; promoting or inhibiting personal intellectual or professional development; and/or contributing to financial gain or expense. Errors may be serious, usually not subject to direct verification or check, causing losses such as improper cost calculations, overpayment or improper utilization of labor, materials or equipment. Effect usually confined to the organization itself and is short term.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Leads others in the resolution of highly sensitive and confidential issues on behalf of the department. Acts as a trusted advisor, and becomes involved in the decision making process including presenting alternatives and information and applying persuasion and negotiation skills in the resolution of problems. Monitors customer service standards.
