Salary Range: $75,000.00  $95,000.00 

JOB SUMMARY

Supports college readiness efforts at the unit level, working with unit and campus leadership to ensure that college readiness programming and initiatives are implemented with fidelity. They also provide support to campuses who have technical questions relating to college readiness, including college entrance/placement exams, financial aid requirements, platforms, and broader college matriculation support.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Works with school leaders and/or other key stake holders at the campus, district, and community levels to develop comprehensive plans that prepare students for post-secondary success. 
2. At the campus and sometimes district level, oversees assigned college and career readiness programs, initiatives, and/or platforms, supporting and strengthening a campus culture that promotes college and career degree and certificate programs.
3. At the campus level and sometime district level – implements and manages college and career readiness services, outreach and activities for students and parents, both designed for all students, and for targeted campuses and/or specific groups of identified students.
4. Support planning and execution of college visits, application drives, summer programs and college and career information fairs.
5. At the campus and sometimes district level, delivers professional development workshops and trainings to support College Readiness platforms, initiatives, and programs
6. Analyzes college readiness data/benchmarks and uses analysis to identify groups of students with specific college readiness needs, such as no FAFSA on file.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

. Works directly with the CCMR advising team and school staff to address such needs. Will create campus college readiness action plans when necessary to assist campuses meeting benchmark goals.
8. At the campus level and sometimes district level, manages various college readiness components, such as financial aid, scholarships, college entrance, the application process, and maintenance of the District’s college readiness benchmarks.
9. Attends professional development to develop industry awareness and stay abreast of changes in careers and college admission requirements.
10 Provide support and expertise with the functional area to team members from other departments, contributing to the overall success of the cross-functional team.
11. Foster open and transparent communication within the cross-functional team, sharing information, ideas, and updates to facilitate collaboration and ensure everyone is well-informed.
11. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

3 to 5 years of college advising experience preferred

SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

  • Microsoft Office, especially intermediate to advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier)
  • Experienced at visioning, developing, and delivering college readiness presentations.
  • Knowledge of various college readiness online software platforms, such as Apply Texas, Naviance or School Links.
  • Knowledge of registering and administering college entrance exams, such as the school-day SAT test.
  • Extensive experience at the campus level, overseeing schoolwide college readiness programing to a diverse student body reflective of HISD’s demographics.
  • Crucial soft skills include ability at a high level to problem solve, incorporate feedback on assigned projects, work collaboratively, manage complex workflows, and produce creative solutions when projects stall.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Work Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees but does not have formal supervisory responsibility. Leading and directing is restricted to monitoring work and providing guidance on escalated issues. Most of work time is spent performing many of the same duties they are leading.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing direction on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

BUDGET AUTHORITY

Compiles and organizes data and figures.

PROBLEM SOLVING

Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS

Decisions have considerable impact to multiple divisions or the organization causing risks or improvements to relationships, significant efficiencies, or delays in operations, and/or significant financial gains or expenses.

Errors are serious and difficult to discover, normally involve decisions not subject to detailed review and will result in excessive costs and/or significant project delays.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Collaborate and solve problems – works with others to resolve problems, clarify or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS

Leads others in the resolution of highly sensitive and confidential issues on behalf of the department. Acts as a trusted advisor and becomes involved in the customer's decision-making process including presenting alternatives and information and applying persuasion and negotiation skills in the resolution of problems.

Monitors customer service standards.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.

Ability to carry and/or lift less than 45 pounds.
