At East Hawaii Health Cancer Center, our function is to provide oncology services for the Hawaii Island. Medical oncology services include consultation, chemotherapy administration and related infusion therapies, various treatments and medical oncology follow-up. Radiation oncology services include consultation, simulation of treatment, radiation therapy treatment and follow-up. The center houses a linear accelerator and ancillary equipment for provision of such services.
The Registered Professional Nurse III is primarily responsible for direct patient care as assigned. This position administers chemotherapy under the direction of the physicians and may also be responsible for routine drug and supply ordering. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed by the pediatric (2-10 years), adolescent (11-18 years), adult (19-64 years, to geriatric (65 years plus) patient group.
Required Qualifications: To qualify, you must meet all the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE:
EDUCATION: Graduated from an accredited school of nursing as demonstrated by the possession of a license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii. While not required, graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.
EXPERIENCE: One-half (1/2) year of professional nursing work experience, where the employee independently provided nursing care to patient in a clinic, hospital, or institution. Oncology experience in a clinic setting is preferred.
LICENSURE: Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Hawaii.
CERTIFICATION: BLS certification is required within one (1) month of appointment. OCN is highly preferred.
