Hillsdale College is Hiring an Assistant Baseball Coach Near Hillsdale, MI

Overview

Under general direction of Head Baseball Coach, the coach will assist with all aspects of an NCAA D-II Baseball program in accordance with NCAA, Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC), and Hillsdale College policies and regulations. Areas of responsibility include on field coaching, student-athlete development, recruiting, and assisting in field maintenance. This is a part-time position.

Responsibilities

  • Coaching & Student-Athlete Development:
    • planning and executing strategy, training, and skill related instruction for all positions;
    • other practice and competition duties as assigned by Head Coach or Director of Athletics;
    • foster positive & competitive environment;
    • provide support to academics as well as athletics;
  • Recruiting:
    • scouting, contacting and developing relationships with prospective student-athletes;
    • ability to communicate Hillsdale College principles, views, and academic rigorous environment to prospective student-athletes;
    • successfully recruiting highly competitive student-athletes
  • Fundraising:
    • assist with fundraising opportunities and community involvement activities as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Sports Studies or related field required. Master’s degree is a plus. Previous experience coaching and/or competing as a baseball athlete is required.

Physical Requirements

  • Average physical strength is required. 2. Must be able to ambulate, step, climb, stoop, bend twist and carry heavy objects over uneven terrain. 3. Must be able to demonstrate movements in which athletes are being trained. 4. Must be able to hear, see, talk, read and communicate with Hillsdale College colleagues, athletes, prospective athletes, and other constituents orally and in writing. 5. Must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds of baseball equipment regularly. 6. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Other Skills

  • Knowledge of NCAA rules & regulations. 2. Knowledge of baseball techniques and strategies. 3. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to express effectively ideas orally and in writing.
