Position: Part-Time Hand Turning Interpreter
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Reports To: Education & Programming Manager
Location: Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory

Position Summary:

Hand Turning Interpreters engage visitors by providing entertaining and informative historic presentations with our hand turning lathe and burn brander. This position will support museum programming efforts to museum visitors showcasing our factory heritage. The ideal candidate will have some woodworking skills with strong communication skills. A passion for baseball and history is preferred. This is a part-time position and will require weekend shifts.

Essential Functions: 

  • Perform scheduled wood bat turning on a lathe and burn branding historical demonstrations following a script, that are engaging and entertaining.
  • Have the knowledge and skill to safely use our lathes and burn branding equipment.
  • Interact with guests to discuss our historic woodworking techniques.
  • Perform daily, routine inspections of demonstration equipment and promptly report any concerns.
  • Maintain demonstration tools and sharpen when needed.
  • Maintain a clean working environment that is well-stocked.
  • Potentially travel to MLB parks (or other events) to work the Mobile Museum – travel expenses would be covered.
  • Assist with Tour Team responsibilities when needed. This includes, but is not limited to, hold a piece of history experiences. 
  • Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

Requirements: 

· Basic competency and comfort with woodworking machines.

· Must be comfortable public speaking 

· Must have a professional appearance

· Knowledge of and passion for baseball and history preferred
