Role Overview

Do you love meeting new people and helping them grow as Jewish leaders? Illinois Hillel is seeking a dynamic and creative Engagement Director to join our team. We are looking for someone with energy, someone who likes to take initiative, and who has high organizational and communication skills to lead us in the next chapter of success for Jewish students in Champaign-Urbana.

Come join our team of 10 full-time professionals serving a community of 3,000 Jewish students. You will build connections between students and develop meaningful and diverse Jewish experiences, work with the staff and student leaders to maximize Hillel’s outreach and mentor the next generation of Jewish leaders. If you have a passion for Jewish life on campus, you love working collaboratively with a team and you are excited to meet new people the come with at the University of Illinois!

What You’ll Do

  • Design and implement a strategic engagement plan for staff, student leaders, and interns
  • Supervises and mentors Engagement interns in their Jewish growth through individual meetings and group trainings, to cultivate a Jewish community that is caring, diverse, welcoming, and actively inclusive.
  • Create relationships with students 
  • Develop and implement Illini Hillel’s long term recruitment strategy, recruiting Jewish high school students to the University of Illinois
  • Maintain program attendance records for measurement and ongoing evaluation purposes. 
  • Manages staff in non-programmatic engagement strategies
  • Partakes in the recruitment and staffing for Immersive experiences
  • Serve as a Jewish resource to students and groups on campus
  • Other responsibilities as assigned. 

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of full-time professional work experience. 
  • Confidence in developing and running initiatives and comfort in asking questions.
  • Desire to motivate student leaders to engage their peers, deepen their Jewish identities, and think innovatively about program content and marketing. 
  • Proud to be a Jewish role model and an interest in learning how to be an effective educator
  • A commitment to pluralism and comfort with your Jewish identity so you may act as a role model and mentor for emerging Jewish adults. 
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be willing to work nights and occasional weekends

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $50,000-$55,000

About Illini Hillel: Hillel at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Founded in 1923, Hillel at the University of Illinois was the first Hillel founded by Rabbi Ben Frankel. We serve as the home and support to Jewish life on campus for 3000 undergraduate and graduate students. We offer diverse, pluralistic and innovative ways to engage in Jewish life on campus, bringing together students of different observance levels and backgrounds to be part of the Jewish peoplehood. Our Hillel building, The Cohen Center, is centrally located, two blocks from the main quad and a street away from the main campus street, Green Street.
