Role Overview

Make your mark on Jewish student life by joining Hillel at Arizona State University as the Director of Student Impact. As a leader on our Student Impact team, you will nurture our culture of innovation, creativity, leadership development and flexibility as we collectively sustain Hillel at ASU’s ambitious engagement success, reaching 1,000 students annually. We will do this by maintaining our current engagement strategic plan, exploring “new frontiers” and opportunities for engagement, identifying and cultivating student leaders, and consistently promoting a welcoming and lively pluralistic Jewish community.

You will drive Hillel forward by thinking big and implementing strategy with excellence on a day-to-day basis. Our Hillel has grown rapidly and you’ll be joining a team that is eager to continue to grow, learn, and experiment every day. Speaking of experimentation, you’ll be doing this work at the #1 university for innovation; you won’t find anyone here telling you “we already tried that.” You will, however, find a data-informed organization committed to providing high-quality experiences that meet a diverse and expansive student population. 

You will be integral to Hillel at ASU’s continued success by taking your time management and program production skills to the next level. You have the ability to not only see the big picture but implement it, leading our day-to-day operation, maintaining a high level of standard operating procedures, and supporting the team along the way. Equally important, you will also mentor and guide our entry level professionals, serving as a supervisor and leader for our student-facing team. Serving in all of these capacities, you will directly or indirectly impact every Jewish student’s experience at ASU.

What You’ll Do

Seeing the Big Picture

  • Update, execute and evaluate Hillel at ASU’s strategy for connecting with and impacting the full arc of student participation including:
    • Making an impact on students live during key moments -from welcome week to graduation, and all Jewish and campus key dates in between 
    • “Breadth moments” (our largest programmatic and engagement initiatives, seeing 200-300 at each program/initiative)
  • Manage and mentor the day to day work of the student board integrating their responsibilities into Hillel. Examples may include: ensuring student leaders are represented at high level speaker opportunities, and collaborating on leadership development with the Assistant Director.
  • Oversee our team’s collection and maintenance of student engagement data and spearhead analysis, in partnership with Hillel International.

Implementing the Big Picture 

  • Internal Communication: Manage current information flow systems within the organization to keep our team on the same page including marketing, social media, programming and the calendar
  • Marketing: Oversee production and implementation of all social media marketing and campaigns, from managing calendars and creating graphics to posting content
  • Program Production: In collaboration with student leaders, curate, produce, and manage our four largest signature socials, Shabbat dinners, and holiday celebrations 
  • Finance: Alongside our Assistant Director, manage a programming budget of $300,000

Mentorship and Management of our Student Impact Team:

  • Depending on experience, supervise 1-3 members of the student impact team
  • Mentor our student impact team of 3 staff members, and facilitate staff involvement in full-team efforts (i.e., major holidays, Shabbatot, signature socials.)
  • Serve as a thought partner to the Assistant Director, developing Student Impact Team professional development opportunities, retreats, and bonding days.

Team & Overall Engagement Responsibilities 

  • Hillel at ASU is a collaborative and integrated team. We expect every Student Life team member to:
    • Hold at least 5 relationship-building meetings/ a week to develop 1/1 relationships and gain a deeper understanding of our various target audiences. 
    • Be a part of the staff rotation for Shabbat and holiday programming, ensuring each and every student feels warmly welcomed into Hillel’s “doors.” 
    • Staff “The First Six,” our welcome week(s) initiative, and each semester’s “Signature Social.”
    • Support recruitment for immersive experiences such as Birthright Israel, Jewish Learning Fellowships, and social cohort experiences. 
    • Participate in ongoing Jewish learning and professional development.

What You’ve Accomplished

  • 5 in Jewish, experiential or higher education
  • Experience as a professional in a Jewish nonprofit organization is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Candidates with Jewish experiential education and the relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.
  • Proven success in:
    • Management of multiple projects while maintaining quality
    • Developing and/or implementing a strategic plan, including reporting and tracking data 
    • You understand the needs of a highly diverse, social student population, and know how to navigate a large campus environment. 
    • Managing a team, including hiring, excellent supervision skills and ability to coach others to achieve outcomes 
    • Creating structures and opportunities that assist and empower students to take initiative and ownership for their communities 
    • Communicating needs and vision clearly in an ever-changing environment

  • An awareness of your unique Jewish knowledge and experiences and ability to serve as a role model inspire others to be on a Jewish journey
  • An eye for brand and marketing. You know how to tell a story/speak to an audience and have experience utilizing current social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook TikTok, etc.)

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $65,000-$70,000.
