Job Description

Job Title: Physician – MD or DO

Department: Medical

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports To: Medical Director

Hours: M-F, 8am-5pm, varies

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under limited or no supervision, provide quality medical care in a compassionate and caring environment. Work as an integral part of the medical staff by participating in all strategic initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to after hours call, weekend clinics, oversee PA/NP staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned which may become essential to the position.

  • Take appropriate history, perform physical examination of patients, order pertinent diagnostics and implement appropriate therapy according to standard medical practice.
  • Obtain appropriate consults when problems presented are outside scope of practice or when unfamiliar with a particular aspect of the patient’s care.
  • Communicate effectively with the patient throughout the physician patient relationship, provide appropriate patient education, and demonstrate respect for the culturally determined needs of patients.
  • Shows consistent and determined intent to be competent, meeting or exceeding the community standard of care.
  • Demonstrate competent knowledge in delivering health care to patients through peer review as established through the medical staff bylaws, recommendations of each licensing Board, and clinic quality improvement program. Participates in the peer contribution, considering carefully the opinions of colleagues.
  • Cooperates with the rest of the medical staff in assuring after hours and Saturday and evening hour’s coverage for the clinic patients.
  • Complies with other facility regulations if providing maternity care and represents clinic in other facilities in a professional manner at all times.
  • Oversee PA’s and FNP’s according to the standardized procedures agreed upon which defines their scope of practice while complying with all federal and state regulations and codes.
  • Supports and contributes to in a positive manner clinic efforts to maintain and improve patient satisfaction in all aspects of health delivery.
  • Works at maximum potential to meet productivity requirements in order to improve fiscal viability while maintaining quality medical care.
  • Responsible for maintaining credentials by keeping all required licenses current, including but not limited to California Medical License, DEA licenses, CME hours, PA preceptor License, CPR Certifications and any other required licenses. It is the responsibility of the physician to give human resources current credentials before old credentials expire.
  • Willingly comply with Title 22 regulations regarding health care and infectious disease.
  • Willingly performs other duties within the scope of practice as assigned.

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Must have current accreditation of Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine through a nationally accredited program, and current license with California State Licensing board without any limitations. Experience in rural community clinic preferred. Strong leadership skills beneficial.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:

California Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine license. Must have current CPR certification. ACLS, BCLS, PALS certification preferred. Current drivers’ license and insurance.

LANGUAGE ABILITY:

Must have high level language skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATH ABILITY:

Must have high level math skills. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Must have very high level reasoning skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge basic working knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet browsers. Must have working experience with medical management software such as Health Pro and Medi-Tracks.

EQUIPMENT SKILLS:

Must have good working knowledge of standard medical equipment.

The work environment is an indoor business and medical office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with normal business office, computer, printer and medical equipment noises.
