Employment Specialist

Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to obtain job openings with local employers and to refer job applicants to jobs that match their skills and abilities. Assists job seekers with company information, resume assistance, and various other data and information to help them apply, interview and get hired by local employers.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Meets with qualified candidates for the Workforce Development Program to ascertain their skills and abilities, assist them with resume preparation and other marketing materials, offer interview coaching, obtain information on local job openings and provide them with research on the company and the job openings and how to apply for the position; assist them with career web sites that list job openings and notify them of job fairs and employers that will hire in the skill set; contact employers and arrange for interviews and follow-up with the candidate and employer after the interview with the goal to get the individual placed in a local position

Formulates Job Development strategies using labor market studies and surveys and economic data; networks with companies in the community to develop job openings and contacts to refer job candidates to job openings; develops and keeps current on local job fairs to refer candidates to; and researches companies, cold calls to find out if hiring and obtains job orders for client candidates; researches jobs on career web sites to keep current on job openings and employers who are hiring in the community.

Collaborates with adult education instructors, and job readiness staff to locate job openings and know of special company sponsored educational training programs for candidates.

Monitors, maintain and tracks job placements; maintains company information and hiring practices to assist candidates prior to interviewing. And document results of interviews and placements.

Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and seminars to obtain information on best practices for career development and to network with the community hiring managers for potential job referrals.

Additional Functions:

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Education, Sales, Marketing or Business Administration or a related field; supplemented by three years of work experience in teaching job readiness skills, job placement, sales or marketing, preferably in a social services educational environment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Additional Requirements/Conditions of Employment:

Successful results of pre and continued employment assessments including fingerprinting, drug testing, medical examinations and background check(s).
