Reports To: Dean of Instruction

Job Summary: Responsible for the success of the total teaching/learning process within the assigned classroom, laboratory, shop, or other learning environment.

Minimum Required Education:

  • Master’s degree with 18 hours of graduate-level credit within the instructional area being taught or a combination of certifications, licenses, education and/or experience that yields the required knowledge, skills and abilities

Minimum Required Experience:

  • Preferred: Experience teaching in higher education within the instructional area being taught

Required Abilities:

  • Ability to be detail-oriented.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to operate an IBM compatible computer and other standard office equipment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and multi-task with minimal supervision. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to think critically and apply appropriate problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to articulate and support the values and Code of Conduct of Hill College. Ability to interpret and abide by the policies and procedures of Hill College.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information.
  • Ability to operate instructional technology including Blackboard and distance learning tools.

Required Skills:

Required Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of the guidelines of the state agency / accrediting agency for departments with regulation from outside agencies. Working knowledge of all regulations in adherence to required licenses and certifications.
  • Working knowledge of the Hill College vision and mission.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs and carries out instruction, including careful planning of the course, preparation of lessons, meeting all scheduled classes, clearly informing students of course requirements, and fairly and impartially grading all students in accordance with the standards established by the institution.
  • Sets a high standard in academic and scholarly excellence, personal integrity, and professional ethics.
  • Maintains familiarity with recent publications and journals and participates in local or national professional societies and meetings where appropriate.
  • Contributes to and reviews curriculum studies.
  • Adheres to the course syllabi and textbooks adopted for each course.
  • Administers course evaluations to students as required by the Vice President of Instruction.
  • Develops and administers the general education assessment as directed by the Vice President of Instruction.
  • Participates as a faculty representative at meetings such as convocations, commencement exercises, and honors day assemblies.
  • Teaches classes as assigned by the appropriate Dean of Instruction and/or the Vice President of Instruction. Conducts class discussions of subject matter within the scope of the course, the instructor's field of expertise, and professional competence.
  • Establishes and maintains office hours.
  • Maintains work area, shops, labs, and/or equipment in safe and sound condition.
  • Works individually and collaboratively with others to recruit new students and to retain current students.
  • Submits all paper work in an appropriate and timely manner.

Other Information:

  • Serves on faculty and standing committees as requested.
  • Security sensitive position.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary work; exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
