Highland Rivers provides treatment and recovery services to individuals impacted by mental illness; substance use disorders and intellectual developmental disabilities.

Community Navigators (CN) are community-based staff that promote behavioral health service awareness by partnering and integrating with their assigned community. Navigators have flexible hours in order to be available to the community outside normal hours of operation and are available to respond rapidly to community crises. Navigators will actively participate in community events, activities, initiatives, coalitions, etc. and play the role of the behavioral health expert. Navigators will customize their services to the needs and preferences of the community. Navigators will also serve as a “one stop shop” for all resources in their assigned community with an emphasis on behavioral health. Navigators will help communities build their knowledge base around resources while providing education on pertinent topics that are of interest to the community. Navigators will share resources with their clinic based coworkers in order to ensure all individuals in service have access to the available resources.

Highland Rivers is seeking a Community Navigator to serve Gilmer county.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Community based position.
  • Public speaking and engagement – “being the face of Highland Rivers Behavioral Health" (HRBH)
  • Assist community members with navigating the behavioral health system and connecting them with needed resources available in the community.
  • Partner with the community and clinic to ensure needs are met of individuals served.
  • Educate clinic based staff on resources available in the community via attending treatment teams monthly.
  • Provide the community with assistance and support in crisis situations.
  • Providing knowledge about HRBH and other resources in presentations to community partners as well as HRBH staff.
  • Serve as a bridge between the community, HRBH, and other behavioral health providers.
  • Establish professional and ethical relationships with community members and clinic based coworkers.
  • Link community members to direct service for individuals; complete all necessary paperwork according to policy; ensure individuals referred meet eligibility criteria or refer to appropriate provider in the community.
  • Be aware of all resources available in their assigned communities.
  • Seek strategic partnerships with other agencies to develop a more robust array of services.
  • Report out community activities to the Marketing Team.
  • Work in collaboration with the Marketing Team to develop materials that are needed for their assigned communities.
  • Serve as a liaison between the clinics and their assigned communities.
  • Being knowledgeable about HRBH services by attending treatment teams and spending time in clinic.

  • Excellent multi-tasker
  • Self-initiator
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree or higher in Helping Field or Marketing
  • Preferred one year’s experience working in mental health or substance use disorder field.
  • Must be able to pass background investigation, drug screen and have good 7 year motor vehicle report.
  • Bilingual is a plus
