GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This work involves a variety of tasks supporting the College/Career Counseling program. This employee is expected to interact with students in a friendly manner while maintaining order. There is daily contact with staff, and students, and frequent contact with parents, college/career representatives, and the public. The College Career Center Assistant provides assistance to students in developing a life and career plan under the supervision of certified staff members. This employee is expected to maintain confidentiality and to exercise initiative, independent judgment and discretion in performing duties.
POSITION EXPECTATIONS:
Provides assistance to the College Career Counselor, classes and individual students in the College Career Center by:
Helping to locate and use materials
Helping to develop research skills
Helping with hardware and software problems
Issuing passes and reporting attendance for visiting college representatives/career speakers
Preparing materials for various classes
Provides assistance to the student services division by performing various clerical tasks:
Utilizing job specific software
Maintaining files on college recruiting materials, scholarships, testing forms, career materials, and financial aid information
Maintaining check-out system for circulation of materials
Helping students, parents and staff in researching college/career opportunities
Maintaining calendars for room use, counselor appointments, and college representatives
Reviewing and processing college applications
Coordinating and announcing visits of college representatives and college/career related events
Supervising and training adult volunteers and student aides
Maintains the college/career center by:
Organizing materials
Keeping equipment clean and in good working order
Recommending purchase of college and career materials as well as office and equipment supplies as needed
