Compensation Data

Salary ranges from $38.00-$40.00 per hour based on skills and experience.

Purpose of the position

To perform service (preventive maintenance, safety checks, corrective actions, upgrades and refurbishment) on equipment in line with Manager’s instructions. Responsible for contributing to productive customer relationships as well as following Best Practice in all administrative and technical activities. The position is responsible for assisting District Manager, Service Coordinator, RSS and technicians in providing timely and quality service to internal and external customers. The Lead Service Technician will assist in technical support, proper use of company resources, inventory oversight, technician training, safety compliance and completion of customer repairs. LST may assist completing estimates, conducting safety meetings and provide support for implementation of company objectives (FSM, MRP, SOM).

Main tasks and responsibilities

Technical and product knowledge

  • Staying up to date with technical developments as shown in internal service bulletins and following technical courses when instructed by District Service Manager applicable to equipment
  • Staying up to date with technical specifications of relevant equipment
  • Monitor and resolve more complex problems to ensure ongoing customer satisfaction
  • Assist other technicians with technical support

Managing the customer

  • Respond to Customer in a way instructed by the District Service Manager to maximize customer satisfaction
  • Achieve timeliness in response and repairs, reliability, and customer satisfaction standards
  • Follow Cargotec Customer Satisfaction Guidelines

Risk management

  • Protect self and others
  • Follow applicable safety rules, agreed working practices and environmental requirements
  • Alert District Service Manager if equipment safety is jeopardized due to any reason
  • Respect and protect Hiab and third party's property (tools, vehicles, facilities, equipment) and business activities

Service process

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, report, plan and then conduct service or repair as instructed by District Service Manager
  • Provide customers with timely and accurate repair quotes (where applicable)
  • Keep adequate records and maintain documentation in line with agreed standards
  • Support DSM in periodically conducting Safety and 5S meetings

Commercial Awareness and Cost Effectiveness

  • Plan and manage personal time and resources for maximum benefit of Cargotec and the customer
  • Make judgements about the most cost effective and efficient approach to providing service
  • Maintain documentation to ensure accurate invoicing to the customer
  • Assist DSM in inventory management , procurement and traceability of spare parts inventories

Continuous Improvement

  • Provide feedback to District Service Manager to support continuous quality improvement
  • Participate in innovative thinking about ways to improve service efficiency
  • Coach, mentor and train less experienced technicians, check the quality of their work, and help them diagnose and solve problems
  • Provide leadership and assistance in implementation of Hiab improvement programs (FSM, MRP, SOM, Safety, etc.)

Accountabilities:

  • Tech Support for Technicians and Customers
  • Provide leadership and training for new technicians
  • Qualification from higher vocational school (below Graduate/BSc level) in at least one of the following: mechanical engineering, hydraulics, electrics and electronics or equivalent due to experience
  • Working technical knowledge related to all HIAB product lines e.g. Mechanicals, Hydraulics, Electrics, Electronics as required
  • Working knowledge of diesel engines and hydraulic drive systems
  • Operators licenses for all equipment used in line with local requirements
  • Know, understand and comply with Hiab USA, Inc. Operating and Technical Procedures and Workplace Instructions
  • Understand, monitor and comply with all Safety and Environmental requirements
  • Assist in managing Parts Requests from Technicians and Customers
  • Create Estimates for Customers- Review>10K with DSM/RBM
  • Provide customer service and support for customer concerns
  • Building and Equipment Maintenance and Inspections
  • 5S Compliance and Sustaining
  • Assist in Managing Parts Inventory Management- Orders and Receipts

What you’ll need to succeed

Education:

  • Minimal High School diploma/equivalent required
  • Technical or Secondary College preferred

Working experience:

  • 3 years of mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical operations

Skills and competencies:

  • Customer-oriented
  • Able to cope with stressful situations
  • Capable of operating independently
  • Appropriate diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Acts responsibly in the light of prevailing circumstances
  • Good hands-on skills as required for relevant mechanical, hydraulic and electronic operations
  • Able to safely operate equipment for the purpose of conducting tests and repair
  • Basic computer skills
