Herzog Railroad Services, Inc. is Hiring a Field Safety Officer Near Omaha, NE

Herzog Railroad Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Field Safety Officer in the United States. The Field Safety Officer is responsible for carrying out the Occupational Safety & Health Programs through the various jobsites across the U.S. The qualifying candidate will report to the Safety Director of Rail Services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.

  • Responsible for Safety compliance at Herzog.
  • Conducts Safety audits and inspections and develops reports.
  • Conducts Safety training (First-Aid/CPR/AED, Railroad specific, etc.).
  • Conducts accident/incident investigations in a timely manner and develops reports.
  • Conducts Job Safety Analysis and Hazard Analysis.
  • Ensures compliance with Corporate Safety Directives and Procedures.
  • Leads routine safety conference calls and meetings with employees at all levels.
  • Assists with drug and alcohol screenings.
  • Maintains a clean company vehicle and transports other employees/customers as needed.
  • Initiate safety improvements.
  • Notifies and keeps the Safety Director of Rail Services informed on current issues.
  • Completes various projects regarding Occupational Safety and Health as assigned.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Travel Requirements:

  • This position requires extensive and/or prolonged travel.

Qualifications:

  • Safety Management or related degree or nearing completion of degree a plus.
  • 3 years of experience on the Railroad preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and provincial regulations as it relates to safety and health and other applicable regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Involves frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, lifting, climbing and walking on gravel and other uneven surfaces.
  • Must be comfortable working outside in all types of weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively at all levels.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office platform.
  • Meet deadlines and finish projects in a timely manner.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid passport.
  • Prior experience with drug and alcohol screenings a plus.
  • Capable of working with minimal supervision.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Pass and maintain e-RAILSAFE pre-employment background check and safety certification.
  • Subject to motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Pass pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.

  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces
  • Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs
  • Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Regularly kneel, bend, and squat
  • Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow; hear and distinguish auditory signals.
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
