JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES

Reports to: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction

Supervises: School counselors, School nurses, School social workers

Terms of employment: 12 months

FLSA Exempt

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree in School Administration, N.C. Administrator’s Certificate, five or more years of experience as a public-school administrator or equivalent combination of education and experience or be licensed in school counseling and at least 3 years of counseling experience.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

The Director of Student Services is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the planning, implementation, and assessment of Student Services including student discipline, counseling, social work, student assignment, attendance, and coordination of school health services. The Director of Student Services ensures the effective operation of all Student Services by developing, managing, and supporting all resources essential to increasing student achievement. This position is responsible for supervising and evaluating all appropriate staff in Student Services.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Plans directs and monitors the Student Services programs which include student discipline, counseling, social work, student assignment, attendance, and coordination of school health services.
  • Oversees program implementation and review cycles and provides adequate materials and equipment for all Student Services Programs.
  • Assists with the implementation of strategic goals/objectives related to all student programs.
  • Provides support to principals in the evaluation of the local programs and in planning for the improvement of the program.
  • Communicate information on services and regulations to school personnel, parents, and the Board of Education for the purpose of understanding services.
  • Provides leadership, direction, and oversight of District alternative education initiatives and extended learning.
  • Assists in communicating relevant information to the stakeholders about the Student Services programs.
  • Attends all Board of Education meetings and presents Student Services policies and procedures to the Board of Education for information or action.
  • Responsible for representing the District in all Student Services matters brought before the Board of Education.
  • Represents the District, when assigned, in social, organizational, ceremonial, political, or other functions, as needed.
  • Chairs committees that involve student rights, students with special needs, and student admission.
  • In partnership with school administrators and the Human Resources department, assists in recruiting, hiring, supervising, and evaluating members of the Student Service team
  • Coordinates with outside agencies to provide services to students and staff for the purpose of offering appropriate services.
  • Works collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction on all learning initiatives.
  • Experience working in diverse settings with a diverse student population with an equity focus
  • Oversees the review and recording of suspension letters and appeals regarding long-term suspension of students; Serves as the District Hearing Officer.
  • Collaborate with school counselors in the establishment of an ASCA comprehensive school model for a counseling program.
  • Coordinate the dissemination, and implementation of social emotional, and antibullying curricula in schools.
  • Organize delivery of professional development for school-based student services staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
