Job Title: Academically Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Lead Teacher

Reports to: Director of Curriculum & Instruction

Job Description: The AIG Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and support for the Academically Intellectually Gifted (AIG) program. The AIG Coordinator collaborates with teachers, administrators, students, and parents to identify, nurture, and meet the needs of academically gifted and talented students. This role involves designing and implementing specialized instructional programs and services to ensure optimal educational experiences and outcomes for gifted students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Program Coordination:
  •  Develop, implement, and evaluate strategies for identifying and assessing academically gifted students in collaboration with school personnel.
  • Coordinate and oversee the AIG program, ensuring compliance with state and district regulations and policies.
  • Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and other staff to develop and implement Differentiated Education Plans (DEPs) for gifted students.
  • Maintain accurate records of gifted students, including identification data, assessments, and progress reports.
  •  Curriculum Development and Instruction:
  •  Design and model differentiated curriculum and instructional strategies that challenge and engage gifted students across various subject areas.
  • Provide professional development and support to teachers in implementing instructional practices that meet the needs of gifted learners.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and modify curriculum materials, resources, and assessments for gifted students.
  • Stay abreast of current research, best practices, and trends in gifted education, and incorporate them into instructional design and delivery.
  •  Student Advocacy and Support:
  • Advocate for the needs of gifted students within the school community and ensure that their unique academic, social, and emotional needs are met.
  • Serve as a resource for parents, offering guidance and support in understanding and addressing the educational needs of their gifted children.
  • Provide counseling and mentoring to gifted students, fostering their personal and social development.
  • Collaborate with school counselors and other support personnel to address the social-emotional well-being of gifted students.
  • Collaboration and Community Engagement:
  •  Foster positive relationships and effective communication with colleagues, parents, and community stakeholders to promote understanding and support for the AIG program.
  • Collaborate with external organizations, such as universities, gifted associations, and enrichment programs, to provide additional opportunities for gifted students.
  • Organize and facilitate meetings, workshops, and events related to gifted education for parents, staff, and the community.
  • Assessment and Data Analysis:
  • Administer and interpret assessments to identify gifted students, monitor progress, and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional strategies.
  • Analyze and utilize data to inform decision-making and improve program effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with district assessment personnel to ensure proper implementation and compliance with state and district assessment requirements.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in education or a related field (master's degree preferred).
  • Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License.
  • Specialization or certification in gifted education 
  • Five years of successful K-12 teaching experience
  • Three years experience working with academically gifted and talented students (exceeding growth is preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of gifted education principles, instructional strategies, and curriculum development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and policies related to gifted education.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology tools and software.
